I'm not ruling out the Robust just yet. For what I would plan to use it for it might just be the device I am looking for.

As I said earlier, I would like something to use for short trips to the store or while riding to and from work in the car. I currently am using my Provari with 18650 batteries. But sometimes I bring the old 14500 battery BB with me, and the size is absolutely perfect. I'm always thinking, "Wouldn't it be great to have a decent VV device this size."

Of course, I'd prefer a Mini Provari, but another $180 for a second Provari needs pratical consideration for me. I already have a Silver Bullet and BB available for backups.

I use 3.0 ohm single coils in several 2ml IBTanks. I never use voltage higher than 4.8v. Battery duration isn't a huge issue for what I would be using a Robust for. I'm not planning on it being my all day device. I already have AW imr 14500 batteries for the BB. The small form factor is appealing to me. Seems like the Robust could still be a nice fit for me.

Comments anyone?

Build quality is not as good as the robust. It feels cheap, but then it is only $25 so you expect corners cut. It doesn't do resistance check but it does have a battery gauge. It does a better job than the robust on the regulation and amp front.

The Robust could be made from Titanium with electronics developed by Nasa - if it doesn't regulate properly then it's useless.
Amp rating is worse than the original Lavatube, for $49 they can forget it.

If you want to use a Robust, it would be a good idea to listen to what the REO Mini folks have been saying for years about different batteries, and when it's time to swap out batteries.

It's like any other 14500 PV, and can only do what a 14500 battery is capable of doing. That's actualy a pretty good little regulater in it, and with a large battery capable of the needed amp output the numbers would be fine. You are not going to get the charge life, or be able to use a Robust the same as you would use a big bat mod. That's a given. The numbers it shows are a function of the battery limitations, not the regulater.
The Robust should be compared to the Twist type devices, not a Provari.

    I wouldn't compare a Robust to a Provari.
A KGO or SLB can deliver 6volts regulated to the end of the battery, build quality may not be as nice but they deliver the goods at half the price. The Robust is a novelty PV imo.

Incidentally, the Trueman KGO style devices use 14500's but regulate perfectly:

Totally impossible! One 14500 battery is not capable of doing that. A single 14500 can be made to regulate properly in the 3.5-4v range, but anything above that is beyond the capacity of the battery. It simply lacks the ability to produce the Amps.

This is, by far, still the best kind of this class of VV PV's because it uses two 14500 batteries, and it's the only kind (made by several different companies) capable of properly powering a LR DCC without going to big batteries.
