Landlord above me says she smells my e-cigarette....

I have been vaping for a year now. Its the best thing for people who want to stop smoking. Anyway, my landlord who lived above me says she can smell my e-cigarette. She's crazy right? I have never smelled an odor from the brand I use, no one else in my family has, and to top it off, its not like we live together so I don't see how she can claim this. Or she has nothing better to do. Any replies will help, thanks.

I vape a mixture of two or three different flavors, with a strong tobacco flavored juice as the base. Sometimes with just the tobacco one. I've had smoker's, ex-smoker's, and non-smokers say that either they can't smell anything, or it smells a lot better than a burning tobacco cigarette. Is this landlord lady a smoker, ex-smoker. or non-smoker? She very well might smell something but it smells different than a burning tobacco cigarette. Since she apparently knows that you vape now, she's either commenting (good or bad? I couldn't tell from your post) or she's just being an 'anti-vapist'.

I vape in my business and most of my customers don't comment on smell. They do when they see me vape.
My UPS man can smell my vape as soon as he walks in the door. He loves the different smells. Says he feels like he's in a general store.
My other half also smells my vape at home. He'll make a comment from time to time like 'I really like that one!' Haven't had one that he didn't like.

Yes, some can smell it. I would stay away from making "clouds". I don't know where you live, but, a balcony or front step may be a partial idea. Changing flavors may help.

Also, learning about the benefits of PG might make for a decent argument. Anyway, you know you situation.

    Good luck!!

Edit: Oh, I just noticed that you live in Grand Rapids, MI. I guess the balcony or front step is out of the question...

But your probably right next to them when your vape, right? My situation is I live in an apartment that's attached but not connected to there house.. So she lives above me. That's why this is boggling my mind right now. She isn't in the same room, but our vents are connected. A lot of information says the smell dissipates in 10 seconds or something. It's frustrating because shes getting upset about it.

Juices have flavors and scents in them.. So yes, people can smell them. From how far depends in each flavor.

All smokers that quit have told me that they can never smell cigarette smoke until after they quit and realized how disgusting it was. Most people cannot smell their own body odor. Or become immune to the smell of their daily cologne/body spray.

Remedy.... Get a strong air freshener.. Or tell her to piss off.. Whatever floats your boat

I started vaping to get rid of the strong smell of the cigarettes I smoked. I reeked of smoke when I went to church, which was disturbing to me. I never thought I would quit altogether, but I have. We live in a condo and a couple years ago the board passed a regulation that we couldn't smoke in our own units anymore. I never had any complaints from neighbors, but apparently some people in the building did complain about other smokers.

As for Vapor. I know when I visit the vape store, it does smell strongly of what people are vaping. She very well might be able to smell it. I do think however that it is not the same as cigarettes.

That's true. Some people have keener senses of smell and some just think they smell something.
You don't say if she is complaining about the smell...or that she's just making a comment that she smells it?

Oops! Should have paid attention more to your last comment. So she does get upset about the smell.
I still think she 'thinks' she smells something cause she knows you vape.

Just to keep the peace you may want to consider vaping a nice fruity juice and keep one of those plug in air fresheners around. If she continues to complain show her the air freshener and say that is what she is smelling. Don't vape where she can see you, it will just create problems. Or as another commenter said, tell her to piss off. I am a keep the peace type myself, at least to a reasonable level.

I really cant say that the defense of " I can't smell it" will fly, simply put is this.
If it has flavoring in it at all, then it has a smell, not saying this to be a downer but its something that I heard a while back and still drives me up a wall and down another which is "Ecigs have no smell"..Uhhh yes they do, depending on the flavoring a very strong one at that.

I'm not saying right or wrong, don't get me wrong here...I'm actually picking on no one as E-cigs smell a million times better then Analog tobacco cigs any day however the defense of "I can't smell it" won't fly. And your not crazy you may have just gotten used to it. I'm reminded of folks that live with cats that don't clean the litter boxes on a regular basis (or even if they do) their house has a particular smell of...well cat. Same with folks that own dogs and the like, if you ask them if they smell the house then they will normally say "I smell nothing" but that is because they got used to it. Your not crazy just experiencing being human is all :)

I'd say go on and explain what an ecig is, show your landlord the equipment and how it works. There are plenty of information places including ECF you could direct him/her to for questions to be answered in detail. Worse case is if they are not ok with it you may have to step outside to vape. I will say that a bath or dish towel will catch the vapor very well on exhale to include the scent if you have to stealth vape as I've done that at work once or twice working doubles on night shift myself (I used a small Kleenex sized towel for those times at work, did the trick no problem).

    Grab a Smoke Buddy. :vapor:

In reality it's more than likely, that your landlord/neighbor is a potato. Unless, you have clouds rolling out of your place like Cheech and Chong I sincerely doubt she would even notice. Even 'aromatherapy' doesn't put off an odor much beyond 10feet. I live within 300ft of two LEO's, one of which has a K9. I've yet to have anything but pleasant conversations in passing.

Unfortunately it's your landlord or I'd advise kindly telling this person to take their bat .... crazy elsewhere.

I have a house out in the bush--no close neighbors--3 old bachelors who all smoke share the house with me. One of those guys can tell which flavor Iam vaping clear across the living room--so some people can smell it.

I'm lucky in that for the last 30 years I have lived in a house that I built with my own 2 hands--every single nail. But--I remember dealing with landlords--and I will live in a cardboard box before I do that again.
