But your probably right next to them when your vape, right? My situation is I live in an apartment that's attached but not connected to there house.. So she lives above me. That's why this is boggling my mind right now. She isn't in the same room, but our vents are connected. A lot of information says the smell dissipates in 10 seconds or something. It's frustrating because shes getting upset about it.

If you're heating/A/C vents and system are connected then it makes sense she can smell not only your vaping but probably what you are cooking, cleaning, etc in your apartment especially in the winter... heat rises and with it smells. You might consider an air purifier for your apartment to minimize sharing with her...

I have been vaping for a year now. Its the best thing for people who want to stop smoking. Anyway, my landlord who lived above me says she can smell my e-cigarette. She's crazy right? I have never smelled an odor from the brand I use, no one else in my family has, and to top it off, its not like we live together so I don't see how she can claim this. Or she has nothing better to do. Any replies will help, thanks.

I've been vaping in a room in my house for over 2 years. The only people who have ever smelt anything are people standing outside the door. Even the room doesn't smell.

I vape outdoors at work, in the "smoking bubble" as the other half works there too and still smokes.

It has no windows, it's like a bus shelter, the smokers (with diminished sense of smell) pick up on my vape and ask "what flavour we on this week?"

So yeah, it's not totally unsurprising I guess. Got to be better than cigarette smoke though, right?

The flavour in your juice can definitely be smelt by those around you, it's not a myth or BS. We still have to be considerate to those around us and take care not to blow vapour clouds, much like we did with cigarette smoke. As I'm now using rebuildable atomisers I don't vape in restaurants like I used to with my small tanks and ego style batteries. The vapour is too much.

I don't know your situation and I'm no expert but I doubt she can modify your lease after the fact... And I know where I live you are not legally obligated to sign an additional lease after the first expires (So new requirements can't be added) so I imagine you're in the clear the lease you've signed probably stipulates no smoking but the reality is there's no smoke, and unless she wants to take you to court (And likely lose) she doesn't really have any power here. Not saying you shouldn't listen to her concerns and maybe try to educate her on vaping - but I sincerely doubt she could successfully argue that the smell of strawberry (or whatever flavour) is impeding her ability to enjoy her own space.

Finally someone sensible in this whole thing, not picking on everyone but self entitlement is going to lend itself to a lot of bad blood. I remember way back when I was smoking analog cigs there was the attitude of "I'll do what I want where I want" or " I can't smell it" if asked about the scent.

I'd thought that moving forward with E-cigs the idea was to educate and be better then the folks smoking analog cigs, but that can't just be in the ejuices and equipment that we have it also has to be in the attitude that we talk with people. I know someone who is hypersensitive to some smells and can actually pick them up on my clothes when I come by (not kidding) after vaping in the car as one of his favorite juices is one I enjoy as well. Again not picking on anyone imparticular but the better liaisons we are for ecigs the less that the FDA and the rest of the world has to fight with. If it were someone else s house or space if asked I'd step outside, if nothing else then I'd give the due respect of either finding a way to produce less vapor (high PG/VG ratio maybe) or just step outside right quick (or the towel method works as well). Either way to blow it off or such will just leave a bad taste for ECigs and Ecig users as people typically stereotype so one bad experience is damaging to everyone who vapes non directly.

As I went over this once with a local shop is that your taking a gamble in truth with flavored e-juices and peoples allergic reactions, I don't know everyone's allergies and I won't admit to doing such but it exists that I could without knowing harm someone else indirectly. I these days error on the side of caution anymore and just step outside, I've had a lot of positive comments doing this and on occasions made a friend or two along the way while outside in our smoking area ( 60% now vape because of it actually).

I'm just saying not to be self entitled and work out a logical compromise, if none can be found be the bigger person and step outside. You used to when you smoked Analog cigs so it shouldn't be that bad, worse case is you can also try unflavored e-liquid as I know that has almost (almost being very, very minimal) smell impact. Not trying to be the bad guy here but giving you'll a thought to ponder on, the real truth is someone will eventually come out the victor of the Cage match "FDA vs E-cigs" and anything we can do to throw the public opinion on our side is a winning combo.

While I agree broadly with most of your post, I disagree strongly there is anything entitled to want to be able to vape inside your own residence.

I think it is a reasonable expectation to be able to vape inside a rented apartment or house (if there is nothing in the lease that expressly forbids it of course)

That's not to say the OP shouldn't try to work it out amicably with the landlord, just that the whole notion that the OP should have to step outside to vape is quite ridiculous to me. Nothing entitled about it.

Would you say the same if the OP wanted to cook Indian cuisine in his house?

I know the law would actually probably come down on the side of the landlord as it's potentially nuisance causing by the way, so I am not partciularly debating the legal side of the argument, rather the use of the word entitled.

Really? I can easily smell any flavor from vapor. The flavoring in your eliquid is not a taste flavoring, it's a smell flavoring additive. Your tongue is very primitive and can only identify 5 basic tastes: sweet, sour, bitter, salty & umami. The rest of the flavor from your food comes from its presentation, texture, and most importantly the smell.

I can only smell the flavor if I'm next to the vapor or inhaling it. If the vapor dissipates or I'm far away then I don't smell anything.
