Last stinky left! I've had enough!

I've had a bad cold for the last few days and cough with a bit of acid reflux as a result of it.

I smoke 20 stickies a day and and today got up and felt like crap. I coughed very heavily this morning and had a lot of mucus. I kind of wretched and there was a spec of blood in it. I think it was down to how hard I coughed, but there is a niggling thought in my mind that says it's all down to smoking.

I've been worrying about my smoking habit a lot over the last 3 months or so and purchased an e cig. I have not taken it seriously. I've substituted a few stinkies with the e cig but whilst I have the stinkies in the house they are ALWAYS the preferred option.

You know what I have just gone and done?

I've searches all my pockets for any tobacco related products and poured washing up liquid in all the pouches, added water to it and put it all in the bin!

I have one smoke left and that's it for me. I'm done with stinkies.

Here are my reasons why I'm done with them.

- Really scared of getting cancer or having a heart attack.
- I don't want to suffer a very painful illness.
- I don't want to be tied down to them.
- Cost of them is ridiculous!
- I spend a lot of money on personal training sessions and my diet. What's the point in smoking?
- I want to live to a normal age. I'm in my early 30's now and have smoked for 10 years.

I'm GOING to use my vaping gear when I want to have a ciggy and say to myself you are still getting nicotine but not the bad stuff! I have to keep saying that to myself and embrace the fact I will be smoke free.

What at advice would you give me once I have put out that last stinky to stay on track?

I will be using either 18mg / 24mg of e juice.

Wish me luck :)

Thanks everyone!

Good for you.

Make sure you have backup equipment for everything, and backups for the backups. You don't want something to break and your only alternative to be a pack of cigarettes. We all know that there is no craving greater than the one that comes when there is no nicotine in the house.

I quit using a mall-bought cartridge e-cig that I had been using to fill in between cigarettes, although I moved on fairly quickly to an eGo.

Ok so I out my last analogue out about an hour and a half ago. Have been vaping like mad.

My mind is thinking of analogues. What did you do when that happened?
I think because I have no analogues in the house now my mind is saying buy some, buy some.

Try and take your mind of it by searching the web for some really cool vape gear or yummy juices. Remind yourself how much money you'll be saving (unless you buy all that cool vape gear and yummy juices)

Good luck with it and stay strong! :)

Thanks. I'm going to the gym in about ten minutes for my personal training session. Have saved at least 3 analogues so far this morning so let's see if I notice my breathing is a little better lol.

I just want to use this thread as a way to share my feelings which might help other people.

Feeling happy as normally with zero analogues in the house I'd be running to the shop immediately. And to put them in the bin and cover them water was a big thing for me to do.

Will report back later.

Vape whenever you want, especially at first. You don't need to ration them out like cigarettes, especially if you are refilling. It can get expensive with prefilled cartridges, but certainly at first, vape as much as you need. Don't believe or get scared by marketing lies that equate a tankful or cartridgeful of liquid to so many cigarettes. It isn't true and it isn't helpful. You'll know if you've had too much.

Do not fall into the trap your mind is setting that an analogue is all that will satisfy you. Whenever you get a craving, vape. You'll find the craving will go away no matter what your mind is telling you.

You are now a non-smoker; smoking is something that you don't do any more. It isn't an option.

Try to duplicate with vaping, the features of smoking that feed your addiction. Habits are just as much part of the addiction as the chemicals and everyone's addiction is different.

And if you fail, then with vaping it isn't as bad as it is when you're quitting cold turkey. It's not back to square one, it's just a hiccup. With cold turkey, every cigarette you smoke is a failure; With vaping, every cigarette you don't smoke is a triumph. Many people stop immediately, but some just cut back gradually, even to maybe a pack every week or two. I couldn't do that but some do.

Ok so have been out to the gym. Doing some work on the laptop in the car waiting for my girlfriend to finish her personal training session. My ego battery has gone. Bloody hell!

I think I have learnt a lesson. Always carry a spare battery with you. Thing is I hadn't planned for giving up the analogies this morning. It was an impulsive thing. Out for the next 6 hours. Might cave in :(. But I have learnt something this morning and have saved 10 analogues. I need to better prepared!
