I have a bunch of empty cartos I have left open during a home move. I decided to wash some out for refill yesterday after they have laid open for a couple weeks. Some of them seem to not wash out now with air only passing through the battery hole and not through the filling material. I think maybe the remnants of the old juice have dried up in the filling material and now may be ruined. has anyone experienced this? I'm wondering if a good soak in alcohol will soften the residue back up and allow me to wash them out and continue re using them or are they done for?

I've not had this problem as I usually put the caps back on, but I am getting lazier about it (this maybe a wakeup call, cap the suckers). I've read somewhere here that Vodka has been used as a cleaning agent and will aid in the drying process of the batting. I think Vodka would be better than Isopropyl being that some trace amount could be inhaled. You might try soaking them in the Vodka and then doing the warm water rinse. Maybe somebody that's actually had the problem will chime in.
