legit sony vtc4 18650 batteries???

ok so last week i got a couple sony vtc4 batteries from vapor crypt. i just cannot for the life of me, tell if they are the real deal or not. only thing that is different from a "legit" sony vtc4 is that they dont say sony 31. have been running both the batteries quite a bit since i got them, and also i just set up a .9 ohm single coil last night. no problems so far. i just hope they aren't 20 amp knock offs or something like i have heard of other people getting. i am hoping i can keep using these batteries to build coils with less and less resistance. just want to be on the safe side. is there a way to tell if they are legit, or at least safe?

By the way, there is a little white sticker that pretty much says the same thing as on the battery itself under the green wrapping, except it states the volts (3.7) and the mAh (2100). also it says made in china if that helps..

How to Spot a Fake Sony VTC5 battery.

That's for VTC5s, but it's all I've got. Some store sites have good enough pics of the real cells so you can see the faint writing on them.

Any examples of which websites? I just dont have much to go on. There seem to be a lot of different looking vtc4 batteries. The differences are small, but still.

found pictures of the battery on illumination supply. it says sony 31, which seems to be the only difference.

Best way to get genuine batteries of any brand is to purchase them only from reputable vendors who verify the source of their batteries as directly from the manufacturer who makes them.

RTD Vapor, Illumination Supply, and Orbtronics are good sources for genuine Sony batteries. Trying to save a few bucks by buying from EBay or Amazon is risky at best.

yeah, definitely doing that from now on. is there a way i could test maximum amp discharge on these? what kind of tester would i need?

You likely would need some sophisticated bench testing equipment, but that's just a guess. Manufacturers or vendors may or may not list the maximum amp discharge rate on their spec sheets, and is figured from a formula using the battery's C rating and the mAh capacity of the battery. There are two specs concerning discharge rates. "Continuous discharge rate" is the industry standard used to compare batteries between other brands and models. "Pulse discharge rate" is the other spec, and is always higher than the continuous.

Yeah, i figured. well the website didn't have info like a C rating but i think for now, i will play it safe. the batteries seem just fine, and aren't getting hot running at .9 ohms, but if i take it much lower, i think i will just grab a set of vtc4s or 5s off of a more trusted website. It looks like vapor crypt is a newer website and they are the only batteries on their site.
