I had one of those "d'oh!" moments and didn't see it mentioned in a few searches sooo..
I'm pretty new to vaping and got some cartomizers for my eGo. The only mystery being the fill level in an opaque carto that must be filled with a syringe through a tiny hole. The first fill on a new, dry carto is a no-brainer because the capacity is known. Once they've been filled, there will always be some leftover hung up in the stuffing that reduces the amount of a refill.
I've searched a bunch and found threads about over filling, flooding and whatnot. The only halfway accurate solution I saw was using a small scale to weigh the carts empty and full to estimate out how much juice to use when filling.
On apparently "emptying" my first one, I started to use my digital postal scale and couldn't since it doesn't go fine enough (0.1oz/0.5g). So I guessed it and shot in a little over 1ml (the ones I got are supposed to hold 2ml) to be safe and that seemed to work ok. At that time, I also filled a second new one. The refill lasted about the same as the first, about a day.
Then the light bulb came on: why not use that spin method I've seen used for filling the 501 cartos, but instead to bring that leftover suspended juice down to the burner end? I'm also vaping 100% VG, so guessing the thicker juice is also making this an issue.
I took my apparently empty cartos and stuck the battery end caps on and dropped them into a small bag battery end down and gave them a whirl - about 5 seconds. Got them out, pulled off the caps, swabbed a little juice out with a q-tip and screwed on a battery.
Success! I got almost another day of nice thick vapor out of both without having to top them off! As an extra bonus, today with the vapor fading a bit, I can tell by feel that the cartos are "more empty." I filled a syringe with 2ml and got 1.8ml in the carto before it started flooding.
So.. no magical additional capacity. Just a little more time between refills and a more predictable refill volume. It seems so obvious that I'm afraid of catching some flames for posting. OTOH, maybe not
