haven't put any pics of my woodies in this thread yet, was waiting to finish them up but here's a few under construction shots :)

the fiddleback walnut came to me poly finish but I stripped it down to give it an oil finish, I like it so much more than when it was poly. the ebony I re oiled a few times and it looks darker and deeper than it did when I got it, I also made a spare plank door for it and I stuck a dna20 into the side, still need to make a cap for it with buttons. I just ordered a dna30 for the fiddleback black walnut one :)

I love it! I'm seriously considering sanding down my poly purpleheart birdseye. What grit did you use on yours?

I wrapped the brass 510 and the button with blue painters tape but any tape may do. I sanded it with 220 then 320 then 500, I did use some 180 on the larger flats but you want to avoid rounding off the crisp rounded corners so take it easy with the 180 but it helps remove more material to get deeper int the grain on the flats. best thing I can advise is sand all the flats ignoring the edges, do the edges separate and last to keep everything crispy sharp and not kill the edges much

I went shopping at home depot and picked up some mineral oil (sold as butcher block oil) and butcher block conditioner which is mineral oil and carnubua wax, and also got some of that feed and wax stuff. not sure where to get any tung oil but at least the butcher block stuff has no smell or taste so I figured it was better than nothing. is tung oil much better than mineral oil? anyone know where to get some?
