Moved to Site Feedback and Help.

When you are in the thread that you want the Link to, at the top where it shows the url information.... highlight and copy. Go to the area you want to put the link, paste it into the your reply box.

Just that easy. :)

If you want to copy a particular post, click on the post Number and copy the url at the top. That copies just the post. Then it is just a matter of pasting it into where you want.

When you copy the URL, as long as you don't copy anything else, you will carry it till you close out ECF. You don't have to paste it into any of the icons that are above the text box.

Hope this made sense

I've looked but can't seem to find this out.
In a post, how do I include a link to another ECF thread so that it shows the name of the thread rather than a URL?

Generally, the site will reparse the link into a readable title. However, there are some forums where this doesn't work properly. As we're beginning to concentrate our efforts on the upcoming migration to XenForo, little things like this won't be given much attention.

If you run into this issue, you can correct if by editing the link to look something like this:

[url=http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/site-feedback-help/645476-link-another-thread.html] Link to another thread [/url]

Yes, you can paste the link into any text box. You cannot start the thread with the link in the title. That is a no-no ;)
Just place the link into the post that you create.

You can practice here in this thread or go to the Sandbox: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/sandbox/

Quick lesson on hyper links:

Hyper links allows you to type out what you want the link to say.

Example: I want the link I posted above to say The Sandbox.

I type the words " The Sandbox " The Sandbox. I would then highlight those words then click on the icon that has the world and a link on it. It usually already has a "http://" already there highlighted, I get rid of that or my link won't hyperlink correctly. Paste the link that you have and click "Ok".

Same way. BB Code is BB Code. ;)

I know that a URL will turn into a descriptive string with a simple paste if the URL is coded that way on the web site, but I'm referring to the ability to change it to a text string of choice instead of letting it expand to the site address, such as "Click here to go to ECF".

There used to be an hyperlink icon in the editor (looked like a globe, I think) that let you create a text hyperlink by embedding the URL into a text line, so that the link was replaced with the text you wanted to display, but still clickable and directed to the original link.

If you're looking for the button in the editor, it's the little picture of a chain link.

Otherwise:

Otherwise:

I think I'll just have to use the Manual method to create a hypertext link. Looks like the LINK icon just lets you insert a URL and manually add the string. A little different, but workable. Before, You'd highlight the URL, click the globe, and type the hypertext label that would appear instead of the link.

So far, that's the only feature I'm really missing from Vbulletin. Maybe an add-on will will add it in a revision.
