It would seem that the manual switches are the way to go with e-cigs. However, a manual switch that seamlessly integrates with the smoking experience, in my opinion, would be a lip pressure or a bite switch.
If you had a switch on the mouthpiece sensitive to higher than normal lip pressure, you could create an e-cig that had the benefits on a manual switch, that ran with some of what I feel to be the natural motions of smoking.
If i'm not mistaken, most people apply more lip pressure when sucking on something, no? I'm not sure how hard it would be to engineer, but it certainley seems like it would be worthwhile.
