Liquid-spitting cartomizers?

Didn't know how else to word the title to this thread, but I've been having a little issue. I'm using 510 atomizers and cartomizers and they all kick out a little spray of liquid onto my tongue when I fire off the device while inhaling. I don't care for this at all but imagine it's normal? Is there any way to avoid or minimize this?

...not normal...but happens...with cartos, whenever you fill, always give a blow on the barrel to clear the air channel of liquid...if you haven't tried it, a drip tip used an a mouthpiece on the carto, can really help this as well..a spitting carto is a sign something isn't right(sometimes)..................

Learn to clean your cartos up better. I fill as intended, by removing the soft cap and dripping liquid into the stuffing. Then I clean up well, then I let it settle.
----
How I fill a cartomizer (Vapor4Life for KR8 or Boge 510 for 510 which are all soft-cap w/ no inner seals and defined central air channel)

I use thin (20% or less VG) liquid or Vapor4Life WOW liquids, preferably clear liquids w/ no sediment

Filling a blank carto - I pop off the soft cap (unbent paperclip carefully in the mouth hole, not catching any wires or stuffing!). I hold some tissue against the threaded end hole. I tilt the carto and slowly drip 18 drops (per ml of carto capacity and these are 1ml cartos) onto the inner wall of the carto so it slides down into the stuffing while I rotate the carto. Then I wait 15 seconds or so then I drip however many more drops the stuffing wants to soak up.

Cleanup - Then I do clean-up. If it is leaking, I clean that up. Then I tilt the open end down into the tissue and puff a couple of times into the threaded end to clear any juice out of the central air channel (I want to see light through there). If it looks too wet above the stuffing, I gently touch a bit of tissue to the stuffing (otherwise that liquid will be gurgling or spitting in my mouth). NOTE - for maximum cleanup you can put the soft tissue in touching the stuffing first, tilt open end down, and then puff into the threaded end. That will be a carto unlikely to leak or spit.

Settle - Then since this was a fresh fill of a blank, I now let it settle. I lay the carto on different sides for 15-20 minutes. Then it should be ready to vape. If you use thicker juices than me, then you may need to let it settle longer.

As I am vaping - if the vapor gets a bit light or a bit dry or tastes bit off or the carto is getting unusually warm, I will take the carto off the battery, open it, add 6-8 drops or whatever it seems to want (I will either hold a bit of tissue against the threaded end hole just in case, or skimp on how many drops I add to make sure I avoid drips if I have no tissue). I check to make sure the threaded end is dry, give it a couple of puffs into the threaded end to make sure the air channel is clear, and continue to vape.

Note - it is easy for me to "open" my main cartos for adding juice because I replace the white end cap with a plastic or delrin drip tip (I get them at LiteCigUSA.net). So I can easily pull that out with my fingers when I add juice and it keeps my lips cool if the carto is hot.

I'm using an unknown brand atty, it has a silver body about an inch long and then a black cap/mouthpiece that's also about an inch long. The mouthpiece is weird because you can't see through it and it seems air will only flow through in one direction. I almost think it is designed to keep liquid out of your mouth?

Also using Boge brand cartomizers. I fill them from the top and avoid the center tube, then gently blow from the top. I've never seen much liquid come out from the bottom when blowing into it and only hear a little gurgling sound.

Maybe I'm overfilling the cartomizers? I drip a few drops, wait a bit until the filler looks dry, drip some more, etc. until it looks saturated but not overflowing into the center tube.

Once you get any minute amount of liquid in the center tube, will it keep spitting? Does the reverse inhale thing work for cartos?

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I posted how I fill Boge above. Mine rarely spit. Note the cleanup I use and the settle. The drip tip as a mouthpiece can also help but a too-wet carto can still aim a hot drop right through to your mouth.

And hopefully on slim 510 you are using standard resistance Boge? LR stuff has the potential to damage slim batteries and is meant for big batteries and mods 450mah+

Hi dormouse,
Thanks for the detailed info! Okay, so it sounds like I am essentially doing it correct and just need to clear the center tube a little better. Sure wish they'd make the tube higher than the darned filler, that would make life much easier! I'm using standard and LR 510 Boge cartos on a Pure Smoker Icon. As one would expect, the LRs spit more.

Do a Google search for "Taryn Spin". It's a great method to force the juice you put into the carto down into the filler. Apart from that, always blow it out before using (as previously suggested). Also, I use a lot of caution when starting on a newly refilled carto. Draw very slowly and if you hear gurgling, blow it out again.

That said, it does happen from time to time (maybe once every other day for me). I liken it to those instances with analogs when the filter would get loose and some mini-embers would get pulled into your mouth.

If you blow hard into a carto to clear the center tube, liquid that's in the filler material comes out of the tiny holes in the threaded area...is this normal? I have one Boge carto that is constantly spitting at me so I blew into the end and the center looked clear but the paper towel I was using looked wet so I kept going. Didn't realize where the liquid was coming from until I looked and the filler looked dry and then noticed the liquid from the tiny holes.
