liquid taste/smell troubles

I know the first post I see is going to be something along the lines of "search the forum...."

Which is why I have searched before I posted this. But I couldn't find anything that helped me out

My problem is I get a really burnt nasty taste out of all of the liquids I make.

I have been using flavorings from lorann's, bickford, and spicebarn. So far it doesn't matter what kind of flavoring I use it always happens.

I have been mixing my liquid by using 20%flavor with 40% of both pg and vg. my pg is from bickfords and my vg is from mountain rose herbs I have also used some glycerin that I bought from safeway pharmacy in place of the vg.

I am also using liquid xpress unflavored 36mg juice to add nic to it.

I am using an SD as my PV, and am using the pen style atomizers from bestecig. I have tried to clean out the atomizers and sadly it still replicates the same nasty taste. I can even smell the taste in the atomizer and on the cart.

Also my carts have been soaked most of the time. At first i figured it was probably from the cart drying out but oddly still producing plenty of vapor, but it is always wet now and tasting horrible.

Any ideas?

I am wondering if you have the right consistensy? Do you have any e-juice from a supplier to gauge aganist? Too thick? Too Thin? @0% flavor seems like a lot. I will be right back..I want to look up Kate's base.
Remember if you want no nic add the same amount PG or VG to even it up.

Kate's small batch recipe (as posted above) is
10% water
10% Flavoring
20% Commercial E-Liquid
60% VG

That equates to (for a 1ml sample)
2 drops Water
2 drops Flavoring
4 drops E-Liquid
12 drops VG

That makes a 7mg/low nicotine liquid which I use most of the day. You can use 60% glycerine instead of using pg or the other way around, use 60% pg and no glycerine. Adjust flavourings, nicotine and water to suit your tastes and make it a decent consistency for wicking onto the atomiser. If it's too thick it won't wick out of cartridges, if it's too thin it will seep out too quickly. Kate

Is there any chance that you accidently smoked a cart a bit too dry and burnt some of the cartridge filling? I accidently did that and had to blow out and soak my attomizer in everclear for a few hours just to get rid of the taste/smell (Even after rewetting the carts or getting a new one the smell was baked into the atty). That horrible burning smell/taste finally went away after the atty completely dried. I thought I was pretty good at keeping everything moist and didn't realize that was the cause of the smell until after I took apart my carts and saw a small part of one burnt.
It's just a thought, otherwise I don't know what to tell you... Good luck!!!

Thank you. I switched out the atomizer and cleaned the one I was using when I began this thread. And found another (since all of my atomizers have been used up only one of them is dead out of 6 the rest just have that nasty taste in them.) The atomizer that I am using now had been cleaned prior but still had that same faint smell to it.

I had never used the water before in my mixes.

I got a new cart and mixed up a batch of new liquid with kate's recipe. It seems to be ok for the moment pretty faint taste of the flavor. (using the spicebarn liquid because the butterscotch from them is more clear than it is dark.) I'll make a larger batch and use it tomorrow and see how it turns out.

I hope this will help my vaping. (still not quite TW but cheaper. :D)

So I still got the same horrible taste when I was trying this recipe out. I've finally deducted that it was my way of vaping. I used to hold the switch on the SD until I was done inhaling. But I think that the left over vapor that was left might have been causing the taste.

So I started letting go of the button about a second before I finish inhaling and I think that worked for me....... so far......

I've had exactly the same problems with my DIY experiments. I tried to make a snus tobacco juice and a vanilla flavor. I couldn't avoid the burnt taste. I think there are two reasons.
First, there are some impurities in the flavor. I know this is my problem because flavorings are dark. Next time I will try some of the Lorann's. Here is a list of clean flavors. exogenesis.co.uk/Loranne1
The second problem is that the atomizer gets too hot. I'm using the 510 and I've heard other people say the same thing. That could be why releasing early gives a better taste. I have tried my juice in an 8084 and it doesn't seem burnt.
By the way, the one success I've had is with menthol crystals. Maybe they are so strong that I couldn't taste the burning anyway.

that's a nice guarantee. I got a tip from a guy about 30 miles away who owns a esmoke shop. he said to run it through extremely hot water for about 5 min and then immediately afterward, blow it out and then put some liquid in it so the atomizer is never dry.

I did that and I haven't had a hint from the taste anymore. (crossing my fingers for it to stay that way.)
