I never share any of my personal info openly, I use a different user name for each forum and I use a fake name for sites that ask to subscribe but are free. Of course, this excludes e-Bay and Paypal. I also use a web based mail for everything but utility billing and business purposes. Call me paranoid if you like, but this has never happened to me. I still get tons of stupid spam in my web based e-mail account though, thanks to some stupid free sites that sell our information.

Now i feel very alone and neglected, i get hardly any spam email and no skype or phone calls. My phone may as well be a paperweight.

I certainly get nothing like old Ivy there calling me, but i am unfamiliar with their sneaky Geisha ways. You are obviously well protected from all that and maybe i need to move to a place off the beaten track and famous only for it's Olympics in 1976.

I use several Gmail accounts and treat them as disposable.

On top of that I use a browser plugin/web service called MaskMe that generates a truly disposable email for sites that require an e-mail to register or order so I can block and discard those that spam me later.

They offer a credit card masking service in the paid version, but I haven't tried that yet as I only use a pre-paid debit card for online purchases.

When I lived in Russia for a bit, I would frequently get knocks at the door of my hotel rooms early in the morning, or late at night, by scantily clad ladies asking If I would like their services...

Well, while we'd be happy to have you in our fair land, it's not so off the beaten track (although you might feel isolated unless parlez vous francais) :)

So it wasn't too expensive? What's the name of the hotel, I might need to learn some Russian...

The Rossiya at Red Square, Moscow. Unfortunately, it has since been torn down. It was a a Soviet monolith of a structure. The biggest hotel in a Europe and every room bugged. I got lost in the hotel several times. The corridors sometimes dead ended and the 4 sides of the building were only connected on certain levels. I was locked in a stairway once and some of the elevators only went to certain levels, because they were recycled from other buildings. They were fumigating there once when I was staying, but not on the floor my room was on. The receptionist asked if I would like a cat for my room to catch any rats which may or may not sneak in. It was a sweet Russian Blue kitten...

Then there's the Hotel Moscow, which is in St Petersburg...

A kind offer, but i think the harsh winters would kill me! I do speak French, having been forced to study it at school for 5 years - something about EU integration and whatnot. I liked EU integration so much i moved to Texas!

You didn't finish the story, don't leave us hanging...

Did you let any of them in to fix the toilet or not?

Very interesting adventures... I wonder why no scantly dressed amazon ever came to your rescue... Renting a cat could be some metaphor for.... well, a short Russian Amazon to keep the cat's rat-like boss away. Just don't get my imagination going, else finding the off switch is like a super Mario adventure in itself :D
