I recently noticed what appears as a slight revision of the ECF logo on my Safari icon. Is the red dot intentional and what is it supposed to mean?
I only noticed it a couple of days ago. There are no notifications when I go to the site. It appears to be a design added to the logo to mimic a notification, which if true, has very nefarious implications.
In modern times, the answer is 42.

LOL........ yes, like the cat, that is, perhaps, one possible solution. The other is to allow the Red Dot it's own non-existent virtual life.

Well, before this thread gets closed, I went to the upper banner that SMT had indicated and cleared those out, yet the notification on my phone's browser icon stll exsists. I find this new tech fasicinating since none of the other major apps are doing this. If it was truly a notification alert, then how is it encapsulated within the text balloon instead of on top of it?

It's a snapshot, a cached favorite from when you had notifications.
Delete the ECF favorite. Then re-add it. The ECF favorite will now show-up minus the red dot.

What iPhone do you have? The newest one, 17?
Anywho, here are the steps I would do next:
- Go to Settings>General>Software Update / If one is there, do the update. Then try again.
- Logout of iCloud (if signed in). iCloud syncs Favorites with the iPhone. Delete the red dot ECF favorite on your iPhone. Shut down Safari. Restart it. Go to ECF and add ECF as a favorite. This has worked for some (on different websites), forcing an icon update.
- If that doesn't work, restart the iPhone. First delete the ECF favorite, and any ECF bookmarks, then quit Safari. Settings>General>Shut Down / Give it 10-15 seconds to clear the iPhone RAM, then reboot. Launch Safari, add ECF favorite.
- If that doesn't work, clear the website data for ECF. Delete the favorite then quit Safari. Settings>Apps>Safari>Advanced>Website Data / Delete the entry for ECF. Then launch Safari and re-add the ECF favorite.
- If that doesn't work, go to Settings>Apps>Safari>Clear History and Website Data / That will delete the Safari cache.
I tried recreating your experience on my iPhone. I couldn't. No matter what I tried, I can't get the red dot to show up in favorites. Although, I'm still running iOS 18.7.1. iOS 26.0.1 is the most current. Apple skipped vsn #'s 19-25. 18 was the most current vsn before 26 was released (2025-06-09). 26 is the first iOS version to use Apple's new year-based versioning scheme (like whatever).

I would get the Red Dot sometimes in Chrome if I was doing something else and had the ECF on inactive Tab when I got a like. Or there was a New Reply to one of my Watched Threads.
But I haven't seen one in awhile. And the "normal" Notifications Don't Work anymore. So I'm not sure if they took the Red Dot with them when they left? Or if is an Unrelated issue?

Do you remembeer if it looked like the example above? I swear it looked like a design change in how the notificaion is masked.

Yeah... it looked just like it. Red Dot in the Upper Lefthand Corner.
The First Time I saw it I wasn't sure if it came with an Update to the Forum Software? Or maybe it was new to Chrome? But it was always when a Watched thread was replied to. Or I got some type of "Like".
But Like I said earlier, the "Like" notifications under my user name here on the ECF haven't worked for awhile now. So I'm not sure what exactly is Suppose to happen and what Isn't?

LOL, I have the same one. Bought it in August 2020 at Best Buy. I'm in no hurry to replace mine. Five years old and still going, I totally got my money's worth outta this one.
All the new smartphones are pretty cool feature-wise (Android and iPhone models), but I don't have a need for anything beyond the basics. At home I only use it for phone calls. Most of the time I have it on mute.
This tiny Nokia was my previous cell phone. It still works. And dang, in an emergency if I need to I'll buy some minutes for it. Checked T-mobile last month, LOLz, I can still buy minutes for it!!!
I'll run mine into the ground, then look for the next cheapest one I can get through Boost.
They have the 16e for 99.99.
