Hello all, I've been reading ECF for a while now so I decided to take the plunge and join the party.
About me: I'm a 22 year old college student majoring in photography. I started smoking at 15 and started vaping about a year and a half ago. Fortunately for my health but unfortunately for my bank account I've crossed into the hobbyist side of vaping, so here I am. Cheers!

Hello and welcome to the forum David. Glad to have you here!:)

What are you using to vape with?
Like I said, the hobbyist side caught me, so I've got quite a lot. They are mostly clones, but the way I see it on a student's budget I can either have one authentic RBA or many clones, and I enjoy variety! :)
Let's see... I've got an authentic VaporShark DNA40, an iStick 20, a brass Stingray, Stingray X, and a copper Viggo. As far as toppers... lots of Kayfuns (4, 3.1, Lite+, mini), Taifuns (GT, GTII, GS), Rose, Subtank, Squape R, Billow, Aqua 1 and 2 and a Big Buddha Mini, TOBH, 454, Veritas, and a Marquis.
Also got some vape mail (my favorite kind of mail) this Saturday from Eciggity, a Billow 2 and a Troll.

Photos on request ;).

Welcome to the forums. !! Like you, I've crossed over to the hobbyist side.... and even though I'm not a student, I do have a budget like a student. :)

I do have some questions looking at your list....

Squape-R... leaks when left alone for a while?
Subtank... rebuilt it yet?
Kayfun Lite+ too restrictive of an airflow?
Ever tried a Fogger?

And yes, I request photos. :) Let's see your photographer "skillz" :)

HAHAHA, photos on the way, eventually... I've got to clean the dust off my digital camera. I might have given up the analog smokes but I'm an analog photographer any day of the week and twice on Sunday. As far as your questions...

Squape: Had some leaking problems at first, but I'm using the W deck with a big ol' coil and left a little more cotton at the edge of the deck so it just barely goes into the channels and that seems to have solved the problem. Now the only real leaker is the darn Billow 1. I'm using the Ehpro Squape, so I can't speak for the really junk clones.
Subtank: Yes I've rebuilt it, 24G Kanthal around a 3/32 bit, clocking at around .6, using the pancake wicking method as shown by riptripper (who often annoys me but he's right about that wicking method). I've rebuilt some of the OCC coils, not so much the normal ones but the Ni200 coils really die quickly and I'm too cheap to buy new ones when I've got 100ft of nickel and a ton of cotton.
KFL+: Honestly don't mind the airflow. If anything it's probably looser than the Rose and the 3.1. There are times when I really like to vape between 1.2 and 1.4 at 15 watts with a nice mouth to lung.
Haven't tried the Fogger, had some interest but at this point I feel like a lot of dual coil RTAs do it better with less hassle. Currently totally in love with the Aqua 2. Much easier to build than the Aqua 1, more airflow, and it looks awesome in my opinion.

I have the Aqua 1 on my origin mod... it's collecting dust. Rebuilding the aqua 1 ended up being a test of aerodynamics of the atomizer as I threw it in frustration. :) Such bad memories of the aqua, that I didn't want to give the V2 a go. I think the Fogger might be on line with the V2.

I haven't tried NI200..but I have kanthal at almost every gauge.. and a lot of it. :)

For RTA's.. it's all about what leaks and what doesn't. Fogger, to me, is leak free with minimal effort. I have dribbles comming out of my KFL, Squape 1 (ruined a Vamo), and Squape R. I SO wish the Squape R didn't dribble, but it does, and thus, it rarely gets used. It works while I vape it, but when I set it down for the night, the mod is sitting in tiny pool of juice and a stream of ejuice coming down from the air intake... and that's with 80%VG juice.

Pancake wicking method... on my "to do" list., but I haven't needed to change a coil in my subtank in 2 weeks.

I hear you with the first Aqua, it is such a pain to build that once I nailed the build at 1.0 (so it would work on my iStick, it looks fantastic), I haven't rebuilt it since. I still have nightmares of grub screws. Give the Aqua 2 a shot. Its really nifty in that it can be both an RTA and an RDA, and its almost like Footoon is trying to make up for the lack of post holes in the Aqua 1 by putting TOO MANY post holes in the Aqua 2, to the point that I actually think its one of the easiest dual coil RTAs to build. The flavor is pretty fantastic too.
I really haven't had too many issues with leaking with most of my tanks as far as leaking except for the Billow, which is a sieve at times. The Squape R leaked at first but ever since I changed the wicking it's been frankly flawless, one of my favorite tanks because I think the draw is about perfect and I like single coils.
As far as the pancake wicking method, DO IT. I used to have serious wicking issues above 20w but now its been perfect, even if I never take it above 30w.

PS - Just got the Billow 2, running it through its paces, actually found the build more of a pain than the original Billow, but filling is way easier. I just hope it isn't a leaker like the original. I have to treat the Billow 1 like a genny, because if I lay it on its side, it will have drained within an hour.
PPS - why do I keep trying to spell pancake "PANCACKE"? :-x

...patiently waiting for you to dust off that camera.... :img: Take a pic of your Squape-R wicking lengths... I have tried halfway down the juice supply... too dry... at the juice supply... leaks... and then slightly down the juice channels.. mixed results. I got so frustrated with it, I even decided to practically stuff a lot of the chamber with cotton to soak up the leaking juice.. and it worked well for a while.. then leaked.

Suction is fine on mine as well..just after rebuildign it like 15 times, with a problem with each build, I decided it's not worth loosing juice over again.. so I stick with my fogger/subtank.

And I'll try the pancacke wicking method.... just what kind of pancacke mix do you prefer? Aunt Jemima or Hungry Jack.

Aunt Jemima all day. My dad used to make Aunt J for me when I was a kid, fond memories. As far as squape wicking...
(Yes I know they aren't great photos, but they were taken with my iTextingdevicethatissometimesaPhone

Ok.. I'll have to give it another try with the W deck. I am currently using the S deck. My thoughts were.. if the S deck has a little dribble to it, then the W deck would just be a wider dribble. :) Thank you for the peek. I'll try it tomorrow and take pics, but I won't know for sure if it works until I leave it overnight.
