Your guess is correct. As for a 101 lesson, I touch on cartomizers in my "
Wonderful World of Vaping" series. [Just do a find on "cartomizer" to see the references.] In retrospect, I think I've given them short shrift thus far, but I'll make up for that in the upcoming Part 4.
The two main models that use it are the KR808D-1 and GreenCig, both of which are carried by
Vapor4Life (which calls the KR808D-1 the Vapor King) and by
NHaler. [And there are several other suppliers of the KR808D-1 (at cheaper prices).] Although the two models are different, they are fully compatible with each other.
The obvious thing that's good about them is their simplicity and ease of use: only two components. Just plug a cart into a charged battery and you're set to go. You don't even need e-liquid, although (to save money) you'll probably want to refill the carts, rather than throwing them away when they run out of steam. And even the refilling is easy (it's shown in the video you'll see in my thread). Easier than refilling a standard cartridge and about the same ease as dripping.
They produce strong flavor and throat hit and adequate vapor (although I've heard that the GreenCig produces outstanding vapor - Leaford raves about it in his
Leaford's New(est) Five Favorites! video). The KR808D-1 has a large battery (same size as a penstyle) and short carts. The GreenCig has a shorter battery (but not teeny tiny) and a longer cart. The GreenCig costs about twice as much as the KR808D-1.
To me, the KR808D-1 seems an obvious and good choice for a newbie (and it was my choice). However, I didn't particularly like it. I found the taste harsh and the cartomizer (which is also the mouthpiece) uncomfortably hot. But I don't regret starting with it. I think I would have found a typical e-cig (certainly a manual switch model) a bit daunting.
Hope that helps, youngunner.
