Hi Fellow Vapors--I decided to get some glycerin at local drug store and some food flavoring at grocery store to make some homemade e-liquid.

So I looked at ingredients to not buy oil base because it seperates after stirring and was surprised to see-- Propylene Glycol-- used in the making of this product.

We have all vapors and non vapors been injesting this all our lives every time we have food flavored with this item hahahah

This should satisfy some of the people out in the public places who find fault with vaping. It says propylene glycol on second line from bottom in pic was not able to get a infocus pic

Flavoring found in grocery stores is generally not recommended for DIY and vaping. If you read the label you will find coloring, food dyes, additives, etc.

For all things DIY head on over to the DIY ELiquid Forum. Make sure to read all the "stickies". Also check out the blogs by ECF members Hoosier & dannyv45. dannyv45 posted this thread a while ago. Recommended Reading For People New to DYI

Here are some threads you may like to read through for different flavoring companies. Many of the posts include recipes and comments about a specific flavor.

You really don't want to use flavorings made for food for a pile of reasons:

The flavor concentration ratio to alcohol/water content won't get you the flavor results you want.

Additives such as apple concentrate are high in sugar - which will muck up coils and wicks in a matter of hours.

Inhaling food colorings such as Red 40 - really not a good thing.

There are reasons why some flavorings manufacturers that cater to both the food and the vape industry have two separate product lines for two very different purposes. McCormick is not one of those manufacturers.

I don't know if I'd trust McCormick's in eliquid. I'd recommend Lorann's over this brand for eliquids which can be found at Walmart and craft shops in the cake decorating section. It is often used to flavor icing and candies.

I've used a few Lorann's in the "old days" (I mostly vape unflavored now....took a long time to adjust). Even then, some are OK for vaping, some not, depends on ingredients.

EVERYONE reading this thread needs to see the DIY e-juice section and read up if you have not already. Seriously, all flavoring is not created equal...brand name is not the criteria, but ingredients (or lack of) are. THEN, you can pay attention to brands.

As said above, dies, oils, sugars, preservatives, etc are not good for vaping. Certain flavoring chemicals are not "proper" either.

There's info here:

(And I'm not picking on Burn_notice_fan_NY...I knew what he meant, but others may not...just make sure if you use a flavoring you check the DIY section 1st. For any brand. And it's all a bit of a crap shoot because we don't have decades of data on this stuff.)

No worries man, I only intended to slightly point in the right direction if one was desperate and wanted flavoring right now. I wouldn't use any that had a certain grouping of chemicals and I avoid the oils and coloring like the plague. I primarily order from wizard labs and MFS.

IMHO, unless you have other issues with alcohol, it isn't a problem in moderate concentrations. It provides some throat hit and, I think, is a better thinner than water.

Having said that, the McCormack flavorings are very weak for e-cigarette usage. (And the LorAnn flavorings are not very good as well).
However, give them a try and let us know what YOU think. Although I haven't been able to get the vape I was hoping for from them, doesn't mean you won't, and a decent McCormack recipe would be very cool to see here!

PG is more or less harmless for ingesting but has anyone really studied inhalation?

Yes, they have. PG for over 40 years has been injected into hospital air systems because it's very effective at reducing airborne bacterial infections. It's the main carrier in EVERY asthma inhaler (and I believe the main carrier in EVERY inhalable medication)
Never mind the OSHA studies involving usage of fog machines for stage productions.

People have REALLY studied it.

You can use the stuff, people have for years but only when they where in a pinch and had nothing, kinda like plax mouthwash. There is a reason you don't hear many if any using it because of it's lower concentrate level and alcohol content, you might wanna let that one steep / breath a while,
I personally don't care what the consensus of people think about the negatives or the ingredients of vaping / ejuice are, I just know since starting I have no more Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease because i use to smoke tar, and carbon monoxide, as well as formaldehyde, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, arsenic, and DDT.

thetrucker, maybe the supermarket is more convenient for you but for future reference and a good source to find tried and true flavorings.

This strawberry McCormick food flavoring did not work.

I added 5% to 100% vg and no taste-----Then added 10% and no taste----Then added 20% and still could not taste any strawberry and finally added 30% and vapor ----Stopped---

I decided to order some Made for Eliquid Flavorings and try this again.WIN_20150108_153243.jpg

I read at a vendor that what I have here at home is Extract and the real flavors are 4 times more concentrated than McCormick

extract so will scrap the idea of using this stuff.
