Hi, Just wanted to drop a post and say hello. I am new to this and doing the best I can. I do not wish to babble on here, I have never participated in a forum, Thread based or any other kind. I have yet to purchase any kind of equipment. Any suggestions on good quality stainless steel products or companies ? I have a friend that is trying to save me the trouble of starting out cheap and throwing money away. The company he suggested had very little in stock. I would like to get started as soon as possible, as this is going to be an avenue I use to quit cigarettes. Thanks in advance. This forum and all the links have been very informative.

Hmmm, depends on just how high you want to start on the food chain. If you want quality without spending a fortune, I'd say get an MVP2 and a Protank II with some extra heads.

Check out the http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/574249-need-starter-kit.html thread for some great ideas.

If you want the best of the best, stainless steel and build quality wise, there's always ProVape's Provari, but it's definitely overkill if you're not totally sure you want to do this for years. The only reason I bring it up is your mention of stainless steel. It's certainly the highest quality mod out there by a long shot. If money is no object, this, I would say, is probably the one to get.

But in all seriousness, at least the MVP2 can be used as a backup battery and the Protank II is really cheap now will certainly get you started quite well. You're looking at about $50 there.

And if you decide you want more fancies later, you'll be right in the middle of the pack with a device that makes an excellent backup. I've heard of people here who've had MVPs last for years under heavy use.

Welcome to the forum, and don't worry about babbling on - we all do it on occasion.:D

That's pretty good advice from Amolson, above. I have a couple of MVP 2's and love them a lot. They are sturdy, perform very well, and the battery life is amazing, sometimes a couple of days on a charge. You can also use all kinds of different tanks on them, in addition to the Protank II mentioned.

You can find them online lots of places for around $40, pretty good bang for your buck!

I have to say the MVP V2.0 as well. I have 2 and love them. You can outgrow them the same as with any other mod but due to their adjustable voltage and wattage you will have no trouble finding a setting that works. Many people here boast about using them for years so they are not only for beginers. They are extremely easy to use and set. In fact I taught my 61 year old mother who cant use a cell phone, to use one of the MVPs in minutes.
As far as the atomizer goes, I started off using a Kanger T3s and loved it. The protank is a good choice but as a new vaper you may want to change flavors more until you find the ones that work best for you. The protank has a larger fluid chamber so you can refill it less often.

Welcome to ECF! I will continue the trend and suggest the MVP (2 of course, it has more features). I got it about a month ago and on day 14 of being quit for good! I got it at a local Brick and Mortar store for $75 (I know, way too much, but I wanted it then, and my sister's bf was the one selling it to me, hopefully he got some sort of comission...plus I like supporting local businesses). Anyways, it is a great starter mod, even though the iclear 16s aren't fantabulous. Also, a word (or 500) of advice: if you want more vapor production, don't pull harder/faster like you would on an "analog" cig, a slower pull will get you more, stronger vapor. Also check out the stickied thread in the New Member forum about how to hit an e-cig. Wish I had read that to begin with, because mouth hits have finally made vaping more satisfying!

No matter what, replacing analogs with a Personal Vaporizer is the best/most important choice you will make! Happy Vaping!

If you're not into the box mod look an Innokin ITaste vv v3 may be worth consideration. Pair it with a couple of glass tank clearos like the mini Davide or mini ProTank 2 or a mini ProTank 3 (PT3 uses a dual coil) and you've got a decent user friendly PV that's easy to carry with you. Not stainless steel, but a pretty good basic setup.

Since there is such a huge difference in the types of vapes that different people find most satisfying there really isn't any way to buy your way into vape heaven when starting out. Pick up some less expensive gear and consider it tuition money. You can then get a much better idea of where to spend the big bucks for gear that will produce the vape you personally prefer rather than wind up dumping a lot of money for shiny vape toys that produces a vape for someone else's preferences.

Also, it is very important to note that there is no shortage of stainless steel vaping gear that is totally worthless junk while some outstanding gear is made from other materials.

I would add my vote to recommendations for the Innokin iTaste MVP 2 and/or its baby brother the iTaste VV.3.0. These devices are very easy for a beginner to use and allow you to adjust the warmth of your vape to your preference with the push of a button. Features such as a screen and oHm reader are helpful for troubleshooting and learning to rebuild coils should you ever decide to go that route to save money and/or to customize your vaping experience.

Pair the MVP 2 with an Aspire Nautilus or Kanger Aerotank Mega and the little VV 3.0 with a Kanger Aerotank Mini.

If you prefer to see things in person these brick and mortar vape shops are on Long Island so they are reasonably close to you. Both are owned by people with long established, excellent reputations in the vaping community. You will also have the advantage of being able to sample juices and finding ones you like is probably more than half the battle in making vaping successful.

Unless someone was an extremely light smoker I would not recommend a cig-alike as a primary vaping device. They do a poor job of delivering sufficient nicotine unless someone uses very high nic juice which many vapers, particularly beginners, will find to be unpleasantly harsh.

Dr. Farsalinos did a study, Nicotine absorption from electronic cigarettes, comparing nicotine uptake from a cigarette to two different types of vaping devices, a cig-alike and a VW device paired with an Evod at 9 watts using 18 mg. eliquid.

So the key findings here are that, consistent with prior studies, electronic cigarettes that are the same size and shape as a regular cigarette are capable of delivering nicotine but at much lower levels (less than one fifth, or 20%) than delivered by smoking a regular cigarette.
...

...but even the advanced model used in this study delivered nicotine much more slowly and at less than half the levels obtained by smoking a regular cigarette. To put it another way, it took an hour of puffing on even an advanced electronic cigarette to obtain the same blood nicotine concentration that could be obtained by smoking a cigarette for 5 minutes.

That said, I personally found the familiar form factor of a cig-alike to be enormously helpful as a psychological comfort when I first switched to vaping. I clutched it in my hand like a security blankie for weeks. However, I primarily used larger, more efficient gear for my nic fix.

It may be worth picking up a disposable NJOY King to see if one finds the cig-alike form factor helpful before purchasing rechargeable cig-alikes. Also, the familiar form factor and high nicotine content of the NJOYs has been helpful for some people in satisfying cigarette cravings.

Well that is where you and I disagree.

I find most people looking to get off cigarettes are looking for something that gives them the same or close to the same experience as smoking a real cigarette. You don't get that from any of the larger devices because of the button you always have to push to activate it. It always take a Hand at your mouth unlike a real cigarette. There are very fine Cig A Like products out there, Halo being one of them, that deliver nic just fine.

If I had tried starting with one of the eGo style devices I probably would still be smoking.

This would make a fantastic study, but it seems from what I've been seeing, that something different from a cigarette actually makes the transition a little easier.

What, who, huh? What was that?

There seems to be two issues here. One is nicotine, but a lot more, I think, is psychological. Especially with very long term smokers. And one advantage PVs have over cigalikes is taste. People seem to 'accidentally quit' a lot more when they find really strong flavors they love and aren't anything like analogs. Also, a slightly different physical method seems to help this. It creates a different habit that induces a dissonance when the user picks up an analog again.

The net result is the user ends up with 'tastes good' associated with the act of vaping and 'tastes bad' associated with analog cigarettes.

At this point, the user quits, whether he or she had even planned on it. Even more, even if they do pick up a cigarette or are around smokers, they won't revert to 'tastes bad'. Another set of behaviors has been created that the little lizard brain prefers enough to override the old habit. But this is 'one rat research', as it were, and observation of a very small test sample.

I think the moral of this story is that there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to ecigs. There are some excellent devices and each has its own place in the vaping community.
There are quite allot of folks here who had to use tobacco flavors to kick the habit. I could not use the tobacco flavors because they made me want a cigarette more.
Some people start vaping and never pick up a cigarette again. I had to transition for a few weeks until I enjoyed my ecig better than my analog.

What I can tell you is you will not be wasting a dime. As long as you achieve your goal, you win the jackpot. I was a 1 1/2 pack a day smoker for 30 years. I didnt really want to give up my cigarettes but had to for my health. After the transition I had the craving maybe once every few days then weekly now I dont even like to be around them. My ecig experience has left me with a chance to live longer. My doctor is even amazed because after only 4 1/2 months my Xray showed clear lungs. I had no shadowing from smoking any more. My blood pressure came out of the stroke range and back to normal. So I hit the ultimate jackpot and so can you.

Lots of helpful info, thanks, went with an itaste 134, using the tank it came with, and an aspire BDC -ETS, an i30s, a kangertech protank
mini 3, an aspire nautilus, I went a bit overboard on tanks, an Iclear 16b, anyway, I'm smoking 1 cig a day. And it tastes like crap. Hope to get past that 1 soon. This from a pack, pack & a half a day for 30 plus years. I have a few ego c twist batteries for when I don't feel like lugging the 134 around. My wife is now vaping as well so the extra tanks are handy. I have been trying different flavors and vendors and different pg/vg variations. I may not post much but I read the forums often and get lots of great tips and info. Thanks everyone.
