If you set him up with a carto in a tank, a cartotank, that may be even more hassle free for him.

I suggest at least looking into IBTanked for a complete set up. There is a very large support thread on ECF for IBTanked. If any issues should arise, or questions, there are nice folks there to help him out.

Baditude has some very informative blogs on carto tanks as well.

Some people think of carto tanks as "old school" and maybe so. But I think they are still around for reasons your girlfriends dad might appreciate; they are consistent, deliver a good experience, and are relatively fuss and fiddle free.

If you decide to give them a try, I recommend you get the flanged cartos, single coil, with a 2.0-3.0 resistance. The reason I even mention this is because of the gear you are using, you may think low res dual coils are the way to go with carto tanks too.
This is a different animal altogether!

I wish you both good luck with whatever you choose. All smokers should be so lucky as your gf's father to have an experienced vaper such as yourself to care enough to help them get started!

I think that IBTanked carto tanks work great. I've been using Smoktech pre-punched cartos with them.

Absolutely! Smoktech pre-punched. You can get everything you need from the one place, IBTanked, and by this time next week, the "kinda old" guy will be happily vaping away!:vapor: Easy peasy!

Definitely get an IBTanked carto tank. I used to be a big carto guy and passed that on to my wife along with the gear that is still kicking to this day. My IBTanked tank must be over a year old with the same O rings it came with haha, great tank.

- Get the 22mm Standard Tube

22mm Cartomizer Tank

As far as carto go I wouldn't use anything but these. I had tried them all and never had a problem with Boge slotted cartos. No wicking issues ever.

Get the LR 35mm Slotted cartos

Boge 510 LR Stainless (Laser Slotted) - (5pack)

If you like a taller tank get the XL tank with 45mm cartos. The 35mm's with the standard tank hit the hardest in my opinion.

Smok cartos are also non-punched or non-slotted. I have been custom punching my own Smok cartos for the last three years.

A cartotank is likely the best quality vape he'll get unless he gets into rebuilding. I also recommend IBTanked if you go that route.

That said, there is a very slight learning curve to carto tanks. It takes a bit longer to initially set up then a clearomizer would. You need to prime the carto first, then insert it into the tank with a tank tool (you can find it on IBTanked. Just go to their complete tank section), then before inserting all the way, you must fill the tank up about 80 to 90% of the way. Then you need to finish inserting the cartomizer. It's easy. I can do it in under 5 minutes. It isn't as easy as filling a clearomizer, screwing on the top or the base (depending on what kind you're using) and putting it on a battery. However, there is no denying that the vape is better with a cartotank, and the cartos last longer in a tank then coils in a clearo do.

Along with a cartotank, I do recommend getting him at least one clearomizer. Something really simple, like a Mini Protank 2. Let him decide what's worth it. The quick, simplicity of a clearo, or the better taste and vapor from the cartotank. If I started my husband on cartotanks instead of bottom coil clearos, I doubt he'd be vaping now. He IS on cartotanks now, but he needed really simple and easy things when he first quit smoking. Of course, if he's a heavier smoker then my husband was, the cartotank may be more effective anyway. Hubby smoked a pack a day.
