I got a call from the beagle rescue around 6pm they approved me to adopt from them so tomorrow going to drive there and see a few that they have in the age range I was looking at..

Wonderful! That is so exciting, good luck!

I did want to add that you shouldn't let the distance be the factor, or assume that because the rescues address is 123 Main St, Yourtown USA that all of the dogs are at that address. Most rescue's are foster home based and have fosters spread out over large areas. For example, the rescue I volunteer for (Basset Hounds) covers about half of the state of CA. We have dogs in foster care as far as a 4 hour drive from our "home address".

picked up Midge yesterday.. was only a hour drive.. has a bit of problem with leash walking but has improved a lot since yesterday.. is now walking around with its tail sticking out instead of under her legs..

she goes in her kennel at night with no problem does not bark or whine. once house training is done will be able to lay on a blanket on the floor..

does not like to be put on a chain in the yard is alright with the leash but if i put it on a chain it backs off and tries to pull out of her collar.. so figure that she used to get left out in the yard on a chain all the time..

here are 2 cell pics hard to get them when she is awake..

well my yard is not fenced and was going to do that while i was outside with her and just not able to hold a leash.. was not planning on hooking her to a chain and leaving her outside,, just a way that I could keep her from taking off after a squirrel or cat while I am cleaning my car or picking up the yard..

I am going to give her a few weeks of leash training then try a material like the leash staked down and see if that helps so she can hang out outside with me..

We used a lead type rope and ran it from the roof of the house to the roof of a shed. Then attached a little pulley to it and then attached to the lead she is hooked to the pulley. That way she has the use of pretty much of all the yard which is way longer than a football field & about as wide too. It was a pain to clear everything she could get tangled in, but it gives her a good distance to run too.
Like you, don't have a fence up and since she is part beagle, she'd take off after just about anything visible or anything she got a scent of.
Since she is inside most of the time, we don't worry about it, but most cities/towns have laws on how long they can be left out of a leash. You might want to check on that.

What a sweetie you found Lab!! My son found his new family dog this weekend, too. He found a 5 month old lab/hound mix. Nice looking dog. Loves the kids and plays really great with my other son's dog. My dog, a little poodle, is afraid of big dogs and he gets nasty, so he stays in the house.

Oh, ok. I thought you meant you'd leave her on a chain outside. Pshew. I hate that!

How's she settling in?

Congratulations, and thanks for rescuing another unwanted pet. Good luck to you and your pooch. I wish more people were as aware as you guys are and stopped buying "dogs in the window."

I agree 100%! I'd much rather someone go through an animal rescue organization than a petstore/breeder. You can find breed specific dog rescue, so you can find what you're looking for. I'm not saying buying from a breeder is bad, it's just good kharma to look at the rescue orgs first, imo.

she is starting to play now.. she is still scared of my nephew

does not bark at all.. is pretty much house broken

started walking on the leash with her tail sticking out straight, fiance tried the rope lead that her mom has for her dog and said that she did not try to break off it.. going to have to get that so I can put her on that to go to the bathroom in the morning so I am not standing outside walking back and forth for 20 mins in the morning

wont play with the toys that I bought for her but has been playing with nephews stuffed animal that he gave the dog..

Is a lot easier to work with than all the animals that I took in before.. was always given large boa's and pythons, gators, a few venomous snakes.. get too many ppl buying them not thinking that it will be big eventually and not many ppl want to take them in when it is costing $40 a week to feed them..

My dog had tapeworms.. discovered Wednesday that my dog has tape worms.. had been checking since getting her for signs of anything, she had a episode of ........ and i spotted a piece of a tapeworm in it.. only a few segments.. caught it a lot sooner than most are found since it had not matured enough to start dropping eggs..

luckily I was a vet tech for 4 yrs and my old boss is great and gave her the last shot for rabies and meds for the tape worms.. for cost of meds.. dropped my bill down to 20$ would of payed whatever for the dog but that came in great since I am saving as much as possible for upcoming wedding.
