I'm just getting into DIY, two of my first six tries are good, and the others mostly just need tweaking on the amount of flavoring, but I also think that two would benefit by a little vanilla added. I've been adding a bit of a good Madagascar Vanilla commercial liquid, and it definitely helps, but I don't have a lot of it and I'm looking at scaling up to larger batches soon.
Now, for a little bit of background, I've been baking for 50 years or so, and one thing I know is how the quality of vanilla can vary. I've never found an artificial vanilla that I liked, and in the real ones I prefer a good Madagascar or Tahitian. Vanillin tastes flat and a little metallic to me, I think because it's only one chemical part of the flavor.
So, what brand of flavoring do you think has the best real vanilla flavor? Not custard, or cream, or Bavarian, just vanilla? I'm pretty open as far as supplier goes, since I don't really need much (anything, really) else right now, so I'm probably going to be paying more for the shipping than for the flavor anyhow.
