so I've recently learned about diacetyl, acetoin, and the acetyl propionyl (i think that's what it's called anyways) and now i know to try to avoid these things. I currently use The Flavor Apprentice and while I know she tries her best to list the flavors which contain these ingredients I think i'd feel more comfortable if I found another vendor which definitely don't use these ingredients and has been proven to not use these ingredients (difficult as that may sound, I know). Keep in mind i'm looking for a vendor which is just selling the flavor concentrates. I know of a few vendors which sell pre-made e-liquids which definitely do not use any of these ingredients, but seeing as how I already have everything I need to continue making my own fluids all I need is the flavorings (I still have enough flavorings from TFA to last me a good while). So if anyone knows of any vendors which sell flavor concentrates with none of these things i'd appreciate it you shared it with me.

The major flavor providers like TFA are very upfront about which flavors contains any percieved harmful ingredients. If TFA says a flavor doesnt have the harmful stuff in it, then you can trust them. All of them have flavors that are clearly marked to have any of the stuff thats considered bad and I was on TFA site earlier today making an order and seen they had a few new flavors the same as older ones but free of the harmful chemicals.

I read the warnings about the chemicals and they may cause this and they may cause that. Ok. I watched my father battle heart disease for 10 years before smoking finally killed him and I still smoked for many many years after that.

If your curious about Diacetyl then read this. Fixed obstructive lung disease among workers in the flavor-manufact... - PubMed - NCBI

For Acetyl propionyl and acetoin read this. A Note About Custard Flavors - MAD BEE Vapor Juice

From all the reading I have done I have yet to see where any person who vaped these experienced any problems. There is a lot of "it may" or "it could" but I have yet to see anywhere where is says "it did" with vaping. There is a couple cases where people who worked in the flavoring industry came down with lung issues from working around the chemicals used to produce the flavors but their exposure is far higher than what a vapor user consumes.

Diacetyl is perceived as a buttery, creamy, milky or butterscotch
flavor that can occur in beer.

That's true for most people...but not all. Some folks cannot perceive it that way or at all.

Drinking diacetyl is not the same as breathing it.

Google...

"popcorn lung"

Then ..."relax and have a homebrew" :)

I get it Ron but it seems that the flavor compound in a powdered state being inhaled is causing that? Just like d.e. filtering beer you should wear a respirator. But I would think the flavor compound in a liquid is being vaporized and is just a flavor, not a powder sticking to your lungs. If you order a butter flavor tfa or others would that not be considered Diacetyl?

While I do use Diatomaceous Earth (d.e.) in my garden as an organic bug killer (when necessary), I don't use any buttery flavors in my juice mixes. Not my thing. Accordingly, I don't know if all the butter flavors sold by all the different manufacturers, or TPA, contain diaceytl. I don't care.:)

The bottom line to me is there are some things (flavors) "okay" to eat/drink...but not necessarily safe to vape.

All I know is I quit smoking cigarettes to avoid cancer, so if I start hearing some proof however inconclusive about a link between diacetyl, acetoin, or anything else and a disease of any kind i'd rather avoid those things than take my chances. Also does anyone know a store that sells isopropyl alcohol (preferably 99%) and a fiberglass pen or something so I can clean my copper stingray real good? My wife has alcohol wipes, but they're only 70% IPA and I'd rather not use those if I don't have to.
