Tasting burnt after 3-4 hits says that the juice is not getting to the coil fast enough. I am assuming that you are using an RTA...As a temporary fix, cover the air holes and "lightly" draw (2 full seconds) so that juice will be pulled into the combustion chamber.

In the end, though, your wick is packed too tightly or the juice flow control is not open far enough. Remember, if you draw to much juice into the atomizer (coil) chamber, it will flood (gurgle) and probably leak. It is a balance.

Good luck!

Welcome to ECF. Hard to know what is going on without the name of your setup.

If you chain vape a lot, it may be worthwhile to get another mod so you can rotate them. It certainly could be coils or wicking method, but overheating juice and taking a hit every few seconds may be in and of itself the problem as well.

What are you using, what type and resistance coils, what type of juice do you have in your setup? Does this happen only while chain vaping or at other times as well? We really need more info here, so whatever you can provide would be helpful.

Best of luck and welcome to ECF.

Hi, and welcome, Justin. You don't mention which atomizer you're using with the mod, or the type of juice. A couple of things: PG dominant juice is thinner, and wicks easier/quicker. But some people are sensitive to it (me included), and prefer more VG, which gives a little less throat hit and more vapor. Most quitting smoking need the throat hit, though, so if you're not sensitive you'll probably want to start with a 50/50 mix.

For an atomizer with ease of use and factory coils, I liked the Nautilus 2. It worked great for me, until I tired of buying & replacing the coils, and started building. If you are doing mouth to lung (like a cigarette, as opposed to direct lung like a b*ng hit), most MTL atty's will have around a +-1.0 ohm coil, and somewhere around 10 watts would give you a decent hit to replace smoking. If you are using the Jomo Lite 40 mod with the tank that comes with the kit, it looks like more of a cloud machine than a smoker's replacement to me. And I don't have any idea about the quality of the coils, so I can't help there. But even at 0.5 ohm, you'll probably do best starting near the 10w range, then moving up until you're satisfied. Really high wattages can vaporize all the juice on the coil quickly, then start charring the wicking material, giving the burnt taste, so definitely start low and move up to get the most out of your coil.

Give a little more info about what you're using, and what you want, and tons of knowledgeable people here will give you great advice.

And good luck quitting- vaping on the right setup makes it waayyy easier!

Welcome to ECF!

All good advice above.

I Googled Lite 40 mod and got this JOMOTech “Lite 40” Box Mod Kit – FullTankVape

It's a fixed wattage mod with a tank that uses drop in coils.

Edit; After reading some reviews, it seems it's a direct battery voltage mod. When fully charged it may be too much voltage for the coil. Suggestions say to pulse the mod on the first few hits until the battery loses some power.

Since the mod is fixed wattage my advice would to be buy a mod that allows for more control. When I chain vape I lower my watts a bit to allow my wick to keep up. You won't miss a couple of watts since your coil stays fairly warm while chain vaping and ramp isn't an issue.

If you get a good tank it should wick between hits. We need to know if you want pre-made coils and if you're looking to stay at 40 watts or will be getting a new mod too.

You should be looking for bubbles after each pull.

Fixed wattage setups can be hard on coils, even coils that were designed for such a setup, its harder to prime them, and you have no control over what the setup is doing for wattage and etc. I'd suggest (if you like the tank otherwise) to get a variable wattage mod, which should give you more control over the settings. One can be purchased fairly inexpensively and you may thank yourself later as you find that your coils last longer.

The best way to "elongate" the life of a coil, however, is to make sure you are vaping at lower wattages and not chain vaping, or even trying to get an RTA that you can set up with a TC capable mod, which would avoid dry hits. Do note that drop in coils MUST be made using TC wires, which often means either rebuildable coils, or coils that are made drop in but from the right materials. Wires used in order of safety: Stainless steel, titanium, and nickel. Some ceramic coils can be vaped using Temperature control mode, but it also depends on how they are designed. Some of the vapresso C-cells can do TC, as well as some of the Joytech CLR coils. Temperature control smooths out a vape considerably, but there is a bit of a learning curve. If you buy a wattage mod, you may want to be sure it can do TC, for on down the line if you decide you want to venture that route...

Best of luck,

Anna

You can up your nic mg or upgrade your gear. Would help if you told us your nicotine mg .
I agree with increasing the nic concentration a step or two. That should decrease the frequency you need to take a hit, as you'll be getting more nic per draw.

Tasting burnt after 3-4 hits says that the juice is not getting to the coil fast enough. I am assuming that you are using an RTA...
I agree, but my bet is he is using the clearomizer that came with the mod.

If you chain vape a lot, it may be worthwhile to get another mod so you can rotate them. It certainly could be coils or wicking method...
Switching between two different mods could allow the coils time to rewick. We always need to have a "backup device", anyway. Don't allow yourself the excuse to buy another pack of cigarettes should you not have a charged battery, a replacement coil, or run out of juice.

Could also do a couple of "primer puffs" every few vapes. Simply draw on the tank like you are going to vape, but don't press the fire button. The suction draws more e-liquid into the coil/wick.

Izan said:
A squonker fits the bill. Hit it constantly until the battery is dead and the bottle empty. Rinse, repeat.
Probably the best solution yet. Also called a "bottom feeder" mod. He could "squonk" every few puffs to manually rewet his coil/wick so he doesn't get dry hits. Available as either a regulated or mechanical mod.

Downside, this beginner would need to learn how to build his own coils and wick them himself for specially designed RDA (rebuildable drip atomizer). Information Resources for Your First RBA

Pre-made coils are also available, but you really pay a high price for that convenience.

I made a small list earlier with some of the more common lingo meanings.. you might find it helpful some..

This is way harder than it needs to be

When I take a drag off a tank I taste a change of flavor over a few seconds. It goes from wet and not fully warmed up, to a flavor peak, to getting a bit dry and hot. If you continue it will reach hot and acrid, burning, and repeating that over and over will make it get rapidly worse. If you're taking very short drags and still burning the coil, it's because you have it turned up too far; this will increase vapor at first but rapidly won't, as well as being quite unhealthy.

The trick is to taste that progression. If you want to take even longer drags, let go of the button for 1/2 second before pressing again to regulate the heat; you can keep dragging through the pause or pause yourself too. Note I'm using low power, older style devices which require longer drags to get much. I have no relevant or good experience with higher power tanks. I also use an RDA (dripping atty) which requires attention and the right build to work properly, but can provide best flavor.
