I often read that some folks say its the PG that gives the throat hit. Others say its the Nic. I've since come to believe the throat hit can comes from both sources. Is this correct?

If it comes from both sources, is there a difference in the type of throat hit provided by each?

I've been vaping for 2 months now and haven't had a .... since I started, but I've discovered that I do like a bit of throat hit, as it gives me some of the same satisfaction I got from cigs. Whenever I vape a juice that gives either no throat hit or very little, I'm inclined to drag on it harder and more often but I still feel unsatisfied; but when I vape a juice that gives my desired amount of throat hit, I feel 'yeah, that's what I'm talkin' bout', which means I can have one or two drags every few minutes or even much longer intervals and I'm fine.

So yeah, I'm hooked on the 'hit', and of course a bit of nic to satisfy that other craving.

Nicotine offers a "peppery" taste and can be sensed in the throat.

PG offers an unflavored sensation that is different IMO, but I really can't describe how it seems different to me.

I'm actually kinda on the oposite side of the same page as you. While I mix for some TH with PG, I mostly appreciate the full lung feeling from higher VG. I've always mixed around 18-20mg nic, and have recently settled on 80/20ish PG/VG. Some TH with alotta lung hit.

Nicotine is the primary source of "throat hit", propylene glycol a secondary and minor source.

Pg is allegedly a better flavor carrier than Vg. Vg is the vapor maker, and has its own natural sweetness.

I've had some 100% vg eliquids made from all-natural, all-organic flavorings that tasted better than any pg/vg eliquids. Not necessarily a huge fan of throat hit.

I like a mild throat hit. No throat hit is boring, but too much is a turn off. 100% VG liquids tend to be virtually without throat hit, IMO. I vape 100% PG juices occasionally, but mostly I buy 80pg/20vg juices at 6mg. Even at that low nic level, the PG helps to retain a sensation of mild throat hit that satisfies the need.

I guess the answer is both nic and PG contribute to the sensation of throat hit, but in slightly different ways. I have noticed as I've dropped my nic that the flavor seems to come through better at lower nic levels.

Much appreciate the replies everyone. I'm a member on numerous sites and forums (all by name MORTIS) and this ECF forum has to be the most active I've see so far. So much info and knowledge is just blazing through these pages. Put a question to the guys and gals on this fine forum and you get some FAST answers!.

Considering that I'm not a lung hitter, the juice that gave me my preferred TH seems to be around 12 mg nic and no less than 50% PG. Knowing this will help when I mix my juices. Thanks again! :thumb:

I normally vape 80PG/20VG 6mg nic or less. When I vape 0 nic at this ratio I do not really notice any TH. I think it comes more from the nic. When I went from 12mg to 6mg I noticed a big difference in throat hit. To compensate, I have to up the watts (and/or lower the resistance of my coil) and I started vaping things like menthol, citrus, red hots, and cinnamon.
