i currently own an igo-w and omega clone. the igo is "decent" to build on because of the holes in the posts, but every time i build a dual coil the screws always end up snapping the kanthal inside the post. but the omega clone i got is a knocked off knocked off knockoff that doesnt have holes in the post, and the first time i built it one of the posts screw holes stripped out so im now limited to single coil builds.

anyway, im looking for something easier to build on and have recently seen the Brass Monkey (Monkee?) and Helios attys. i REALLY like the center post design with dual screws so im leaning toward these for ease of building dual coils.

are there any similar attys to these or are there any even easier to build on? i have to say up front i HATE wrapping the coils around the screws. not a big deal when running regular coils, but i always get them popping down over the post and not making full contact. its even rougher when trying to run parallel coils.

any insight would be greatly appreciated before i spend more money that i may not need to!

The Brass Monkee is an EXCELLENT atty for the money. You mentioned parallel coils - I am running DUAL parallel coils on my Brass Monkee right now.....it is a very easy atty to build on..plenty of space, and the dual center post design makes your life a lot easier.

I would definitely recommend the BM.....

IGO-M, Brass Monkee...anything with a separate post for each neg/positive wire

What gauge wire are you using?

As long as you are not stripping the screw I wouldn't worry too much but to the OP as you have one you have already striped. I stop torquing the screw when I see the wire tail move up.

last time i used my igo-w i was using 28ga kanthal. maybe i just get too much torque on them from my days of wrenching cars. these are much more delicate machines lol.

as far as the brass monkee vs helios, are there any clones that are "better" than others? liek i said with my omega, its a noname clone and i have regretted it since the first build. im learning that cheaper is not always better, so i'd like to get the best bang for my buck while not spending "authentic" prices.

I heard that Fasttech IGO-M is pretty good, couple of reviews on youtube . Also if you can build simple coil for Kayfun, then you can try out the Infinite Magma or the Fasttech verison (sold out), but great reviews.

On the Brass Monkee..honestly...I haven't heard much on the clones...I don't want to push towards something I haven't used myself.

I have an authentic BMonkee...and it's awesome..but you stated your budget and I want help you in that manner.

BTW..if you notice on Fasttech when something is good, it's sold out so you will have to wait ...Magma and IGO-M clone

Think you have the right of it. Usually when someone has problems with cutting wire with the screw they're using 32 gauge Kanthal. And the solution they get is to use a heavier gauge wire. You really need just tight enough to hold the coil in place. The only stress a coil will ever face is when its being wicked. In everyday use there's no force on the coil.

I have a Trident V2 (clone), Patriot (genuine), and a Helios (clone). The easiest for me is the Helios, mainly because of the dual positive posts. I thought I would like building on slot/slit posts that the Trident has, as opposed to hole posts, but its my least favorite to build on. As for snapping 28g wires, it just takes some practice to get the feel on when you've tighten the posts enough. I snapped PLENTY of wires when I first started building on the Patriot, the Helios too, but after a while you get a "torque memory" (as I like to call it) on each RDA and it won't be much of a problem.

well to bide my time until i can justify to my wife that i "need" a new atty, i fixed my omega clone. got some tiny screws at a local hardware store that fit the posts and cut them down to be a tad bit longer than the original screws (they didnt sell tiny lengths so i had to get long ones). i also got some tiny washers for them that im running the kanthal between around the screw so there's more surface area for the wire to be tightened under. so far, so good. but i cant wait to get a new one lol.
