Hello everyone, I'm currently using nautilus tanks on 20 and 30 watt isticks. I was looking into getting a rebuildable style tank like a kayfun/Russian (clones probably) I figure I could save money in the long run. To those who have them what would you recommend?? What gauge wire should I start with/ what wicking material? Thanks in advance

I have a SQuapeR, an aga-t5 and a sub tank for my main rebuildables and I love them all. I haven't had any experience with a Russian or a kayfun, but they are well used by tons of people here. I would recommend the subtank though, it's cheap, incredibly easy to build on, and you always have the option to use the pre built occ's. I typically use 28 and 26 gauge, and organic cotton. Usually build around .9 to 1.2 and they work great.
I have started with Kafyun lite+ clone, easy to build, no leaking issues, cheap.
Other then that, Erlkonigin is nice also, light, big capacity, maybe a little bit harder to build correct setup.
In general, for start avoid complicate RTA, go with simple and proven solution which works more than fine. After that you will see what your preferences are and you can move in another direction(dripper/dual coils setup/liquid control/etc)

I have a lot of RTAs/RDAs. While still using my clearomizers, I got an RTA and practiced and got it into my rotation with different resistances. Just basically tinkered.
I lean to the Lemo. Same size deck as the Kayfuns but with better airflow.

The Veritas is also worth looking at - especially if you are going for flavor and resistance to leaking.

I'll second the Erlkonigin. AFC can be adjusted for mtl hits. Very flavorful atty. They're all I use besides my Kayfun v4.
AquaV2 or Orchid! Honestly, I have a Kayfun and Russian but once I got an Orchid, they just kind of sit on the shelf.
Kayfuns ARE fun. I started with the Kayfun lite v2, but not I have a kayfun 4, which is awesome if you love fiddly-bits and tweaking. if not, a regular kayfun lite is very good.
I always had trouble with my orchid 2, either no juice flow or too much- I converted into a dripper.
For building kayfuns, i like 28g "double barrel" builds, around 1 ohm. I use them at 16 watts. cotton wick works best for me (compared to Japanese cotton pads or silica rope)

Lemo. It's airflow is adjustable if you don't like the airy draw with it fully open........just close it up a bit.

easy to recoil or just check the coil, even add some juice to the coil like you would a dripper.
my kayfun3.1 is troublesome to fill, rewick/recoil by comparison.
The new kayfun4 seems to be completely different though.
I've got a rosev2; looks like its supposed to topfill; the inside is something like the kayfun
I've got a fogger: fills from the bottom through a fill screw. blah;; same with a kayfun lite.
heron is interesting; fills like a protank; can work hybrid to m20x1 threaded mods
(It came with an m20x1F to m21x1F adapter [Should have been m20x1Female to m21x1Male] to hybridize on m21x1 mods; works for me because I have enough m21x1 stuff to make it work)
As for kanthal wire gauge I find myself leaning towards 30 gauge. I've got some 34,32,30 and 28.
And I use cotton for wick.

I'll throw the billow out here. It's my first RTA and I chose it because it's easier to build on. It has a 4 post just like a plume veil so dual coils are super simple. If wicked correctly I don't have leaking problems.
I'll toss my 2 cents for the Kayfun Lite V2. It is a great mouth to lung RTA, is really easy to build, and I like the way it looks. Its also affordable. Mine is an EHPro clone and I never have problems with it leaking. It is built well. The only downside for me is the need to remove the little screw on the bottom and use a syringe to fill it, but it lasts all day on a fill up so thats not a huge problem. I use 8 wraps of 30 gauge around 2 ohms.
I am ordering the Kayfun V4 this week as it should also be easy enough to build on and is top filling which should make it a bit easier to fill.

Subtank Mini would be good in case you get lazy or are in a rush one day and want to just pop in a replacement coil instead of building the RBA deck. Lower airflow settings allow for decent mouth-to-lung.
I have a couple KFL V2's and fill them through the bottom without a syringe. I just firmly press the tip in the hole and squeeze. No leaks or mess.
As someone who's tried a bunch of the popular RTA's (Kayfun, Orchid, Fogger) I would highly recommend the Lemo as a first RTA. The holes in the deck make trapping leads simple, and you have the option of running the airflow anywhere between super restricted to wide open, whereas a lot of other RTA's seem to be built for mouth to lung hits. Also the separate 510 adapter makes leaking much more manageable.

Another vote for a lemo-- especially for a first RTA. It is very easy to build and quite forgiving when it comes to wicking which will most likely be the hardest part of transitioning to the rebuildable tank world.
I'll go again with the Lemo. Was also my first rebuildable and no issues. I got a Kanger Subtank Mini at the same time. Little smaller to build on. The Lemo refill is tight, you'll certainly benefit from a syringe. Also for the Lemo, you can unscrew the bottom and it sits flat to rebuild on. The Subtank vapes great, but the Lemo does as well and I tend to lean towards that of the two.
