You can bump your nicotine up. That's primarily what gives you throat hit. LR atties or cartos (like increasing voltage) are just a way to produce more vapor per hit, thus more nicotine, thus more throat hit, so either way you're increasing your nicotine to get more throat hit. The difference really is that you don't have to get new juices if you get an LR atty or carto.

Some may suggest adding a small amount of throat hit booster like Diablo Loco (capsaicin, or hot pepper extract) and some people like it, but in my experience the hit you get from that is very different from that of nicotine, and IMHO not at all complimentary to it. It's much sharper and briefer and just doesn't feel right to me. Likewise, some may offer that pure grain alcohol or menthol will give throat hit, which appears to be defined by some as any physical sensation in the mouth or lungs, but these do not qualify as throat hit as far as I'm concerned. They add a certain amount of mouthfeel -- that is, warmth in the case of alcohol, or cooling in the case of menthol, but this is not throat hit in the same way nicotine provides a throat hit.

As suggested by Mindfield, you can up your nicotine level for more TH, additionally there is flavor TH too. This can be achieved with things like cinnamon (usually a candy style as there is little that is not candy) or menthol. Slightly different sensation to nicotine TH and can linger a little longer which many like. Menthol isn't for everyone so there is Koolada as an alternate but not something offered by many vendors so I would try a mentholated juice or something with cinnamon in it. LR attys or cartomizers do increase the intensity of the nic in vapor along with the volume and temperature of it too which is a plus for many. Most commonly vapers find that PG hits harder VG (I'm with the few who find the opposite to be true for them) but PG vapor doesn't linger as long as VG vapor does nor does it produce quite as much. All explanations of different juices and ways of achieving TH aside, you have an ego-T battery, this is a versatile device so if and when you want to experiment with different things, you can do as your device has a 510 connection and the mAh is over 450, which means you can try LR attys and cartomizers with it, you're not limited to the ego-T atty at all, you have many options and those options can be tried without massive expenditure, LR attys can be had for under 6 dollars each and 5 packs of LR cartomizers for under 7 dollars so you're not limited :)

Cool, if that works for you then that's great. The burning metal is "dratty", personally I avoid this by using atomizers without a bridge and a drip shield which catches leakage and allows it to be pulled back up into the atty with a dry pull (not activating the device as you pull on it). I get better flavor with this set up as I can drip a lot more and I know when it is time to re-drip as the flavor dissipates.

Throat hit is the product mainly of just two things: nicotine strength and warmer vapor. I would first up the nic strength to 24mg. There are many who vape 36mg strength. Since it sounds like you want to stick with the eGo, that leaves out the option of a good 5 volt or variable volt PV that will produce much warmer vapor than your ego does. Using LR attys will help some although I would try the dual coil cartos first to see if that helps. More PG in the liquid helps a little.

Additives to the eliquid such as pepper or PGA do not work. They will give you throat irritation but not true, good throat hit.

Good Luck
