For the abridged version, watch for bold...
Hello all! I am new to vaping, 2 weeks, and I dropped cigarettes like yesterday's gossip as soon as I got started. So far I have found vaping much more enjoyable and dare I say...guilt-free. I smoked on and off for years, basically consider me a former smoker who smoked about 3/4 a pack per day for 3 years, (always intending to quit, seriously).

Yet, with the advent of vaping in my life, I am daring to hope I have found a healthier substitute (perhaps even long-term... lifetime) that sates nervous penchant to orally fixate when feeling stressed, to which smoking and now vaping have been the only things that thoroughly relax and release me. I can now admit I don't REALLY WANT to quit (vaping), but I will do it if convinced that it's significantly better for my health by a reasonable "more likely than not" standard. So, I am off on a research project to weigh the information available for making that decision.

This forum is vastly informative and full of incredibly knowledgeable and truly helpful vapors, who have already informed me, via searches and reading threads (truly civil discourse!), about the debate regarding the healthfulness and dangers of PG and VG. So, I feel good with my current understanding of the safety of e-juice, and I approve of allowing it in my body in moderate amounts.

...start here:
My question is this: what else might be getting into my body besides the e-juice vapor? Do we have any empirical information, not just pure theory, about this? The coil, the wicks, the fibers in the cartos, the metals used in bridges, any chemicals released as by-products included: am I inhaling anything more than trace amounts of other, potentially harmful elements/chemicals/things? (All of this is assuming proper use of the e-cigarette, where I am not dry-burning).

If you have any answers, I would love to hear them. If you know of any studies or sources of information, I would appreciate links to them. I'm a dry sponge here, and any info or sources would be awesome!

Thank you all ahead of time for (1) creating a super resource for vapors and (2) assisting a newbie in making an informed life-changing decision.

The best place for you to start is in the Health and Safety Forum. There are threads and articles on many different aspects of vaping. I see you are new to ECF. Welcome, and once you have 5 posts under your belt, you can go off to whatever Forum interests you and post specific questions there.

I was a 2 pad smoker for 45 years and I no longer smoke. It is almost 3 months for me and I could not be happier. Whatever they find out about ecigs and safety, I believe I have made a healthier choice for myself. And my body is telling me that also.

Enjoy your journey. Share with us what you find out in your research.

ShariR,

Thanks for your direction! I will start looking deeper into that forum.

And congratulations on your success in quitting cigarettes, something I struggled with for years. Walking away from cigarettes after 45 years is nothing if not short of amazing! I am so happy to hear that the ecigs have been getting positive reviews from your body, that is very encouraging.

I will definitely compile the information I find and make it available to anyone on this forum who is interested, as I am.
