I'm in the middle of my first week of vaping and loving it, but I will be coming up against my first big hurdle: a bar! I bartend on weekends in one of the few counties in Indiana where one can still smoke. Many of my regulars smoke and more than half the staff. If I asked for a cigarette, someone would give me one. I've resisted the urge up to this point by simply not having them near me, but I'm not sure how I'll react in a smoke-filled environment with temptation so near. I know if I can get through this weekend, I'll be good. But, therein lies the problem! Does anyone have any tips on getting through this weekend without smoking?

I went to a bar last weekend where there was outside smoking, but there was no wall seprating the smoking/nonsmoking areas. I wanted a cig so I went to the smoking area and puffed on my e cig....but my battery died after the first few hits. I was really close to asking for a smoke, but instead of throwing away 3 weeks of nonsmoking I made myself go back inside the bar, and chewed on a straw for the rest of the night. Even worse I was the dd so the night was no fun for me :( WILL POWER WILL POWER WILL POWER...like I said chewing the straw helped, also when you would normally smoke just use your e cig

You're likely to smell them and feel nauseous... I can't stand the smell anymore...

Then again, I guess it took me a couple of weeks to get there...

It won't be easy, but if you can get through this weekend, it will get easier. In my experience, inside a month, you won't want to be around smoking...

Keep your eye on the prize. I wouldn't smoke today if suddenly it was safe and didn't stink or come with a social stigma...

Go fully loaded with batteries, your fav juices and supplies to switch it up. I still like the smell of people smoking. A lot of vapers hate it. For a second I think 'gosh I want one'. After trying a few puffs a week in of vaping the taste of the cigarette was so vile I couldn't believe it. The smell is better than the taste.

If it's a point of pride with you, stay strong. Hope you don't beat yourself up too much if you do have a cigarette. If you do, you'll be vaping again tomorrow. It's just so much better.

Good luck on a smoke-free and vape-filled weekend! Let us know how it goes.

You will have 'secondary withdrawals', more than likely. It seems to be linked to something other than nicotine, as it didn't cause me any of the coping issues nicotine withdrawal did. However, it did cause what I can only describe as a 'knot' in my stomach, a feeling of tightness in my chest, and a strong desire to smoke.
I had three such episodes when I stopped smoking/dipping/chewing (now that's a mouthful). The first time was two days in, and I distracted myself by listening to music and walking a few miles. It passed in about three hours. The second time, I was at work, so I just chain-vaped 36mg/ml liquid, which didn't help one iota. The thirs and final time was on my fourth day without tobacco. I finally gave in (slightly) and took about the smallest pinch of Grizzly I possibly could (think of someone trying to use the dust left in a can). About fifteen minutes later, the feeling receeded, and after an hour, it was almost gone. I haven't had this feeling since, and I now turn down cigarettes because I just don't want them. (Not quitters' denial, but genuine dislike for analogs.)

It also helps to have a more powerful PV. If you can't afford a whole new setup, grab some lower-resistance cartomizers/atomizers. This will result in hotter vapor and I feel that about 11 watts (using dual coils on a battery that can take it, like the eGo) is good for replicating the harshness of analog smoke. Actually, that can hit like a cigar, depending on the fluid.

Not a bartender, but I'm one hell of a barfly. Hope this helps.

Do not bring cigarettes or lighter.

Use strong flavor/aroma juices because alcohol can numb your taste/smell some

Have plenty of power - enough charged batteries, a PCC if necessary, enough to last the whole time there and way home even if you vape the whole time. Bring spare juice too. No excuses.

If you have auto batteries and the bar has loud music, take the atomizer or cartomizer off the battery when you are not dragging. Vibration from loud speakers can set off auto batteries.

Bring spare carts or cartos (or drip tip if you use a drip tip as a mouthpiece on cartos) so if a friend wants to try your ecig you could let them try.

You might be pleasantly surprised-I was.

We have a big gameroom attached to the house, and of course everyone likes to smoke alot while they drink and hang out. I don't allow smoking in my house since I quit but I knew it would be a pain in the .... to impose that rule in there when so many of my friends are smokers-I would've hated it in their position so the ashtrays have stayed.

To me that was the big test. Every time I've tried to quit before with patches and gum it was smelling and seeing other people smoking that did me in, so I definitely understand the worry and was fully expecting the same myself this time around. If I hadn't had my e-cig it probably would have been tempting still, but to be perfectly honest as it was everyone's smoke kinda bothered me. As I vaped I stared at the huge stinky cloud roiling and lingering above the pool table all night and thought how disgusting it was. The concentration of all the smoke in there made my eyes and nose burn a little. I had to go outside several times to get fresh air.

I was a PAD smoker for 16 years. NEVER did I think I'd be in a position that cigarettes didn't smell delicious, much less that they'd bother me at all.

I agree that all you can really do is make sure you have plenty of supplies. Maybe bring some gum or hard candy as well. Keep an open mind, it might be alot easier than you think ;)

Hmm. Anderson is quite a haul for me as I'm south of Indy.

There needs to be an "Indy vapers meet up"

I was worried too about my first few outings with various friend groups. It turned out that they either didn't care or had 100 questions.

Just vape away and if you are having cravings it's probably not enough nic.

I find upping the nic content keeps me from reaching for ciggies. I started at ~30mG and UPPED it using either 48mG for Dual Coils or 100mG for Boge cartomizers, CE2 cartos, or 510 atomizers. I still reach for a cig, but not as much.

use higher nic juice

This if you can. I mean keep the higher nic with you. When you crave, vape. If it doesn't go away, go with the higher nic. It should help. And keep playing in the back of your mind "I don't want a cig, I need to vape." Or something like that.

You can do it. You've come this far. Keep at it. Best of luck.

I've seen postings about meet ups, but nothing definite as of yet.

I have been to a bar already and didn't smoke, but I mostly contribute that to two things: 1) I "chain-vaped" and 2) my best friend (a cancer survivor) was with me and was sooooooo supportive!

I'll be going to work armed (as it were) with two batteries, several cartos in 18mg and 24mg, and my PCC. Hopefully, that will be enough!
