Hello,

I am interested in trying e-cigs but there are so many out there I'm not sure which is a good brand to start with. I am probably going to go for a vaporizer as it creates more vapor and I would like a system that I can refill myself with different juices. I am interested in trying different flavors etc. Any help/info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome to ECF!

I guess I'd recommend an ego twist or a vision spinner. 2 batteries to begin with, so that you have a back up for charging and in case one breaks. ETA: ITaste VV is another excellent recommendation.

If you want to go a little more sophisticated, and aren't worried about the form factor, I'd recommend an mvp2.

For toppers I'd suggest trying a few different styles out. Try a bottom coil tank or two (maybe protank, evod, aspire, etc...) and a top coil (not sure about these as I don't really like top coils).

For liquid, either go to a local shop (or a bunch of local shops) and try out a bunch of liquids, or order sample packs online. Don't buy large volumes of liquid in one flavor before you know if you like it. Try lots and lots of flavors, even if you think you only want tobacco flavor.

A lot of folks seem to go with one cigalike (cigarette size and shape) for when you're moving around and want something more portable and something bigger for when you're kicking it on the couch and need to "charge up" and enjoy the fuller flavors. Halo G6 (cigalike) alone works for me (I was 1/2 pack per day max) but I've read that for some people it just doesn't cut it. I don't see how you can go wrong with a quality cigalike kit, of which there are many in the $50 range, for starters, and you can research other options while you see how it works for you.

excellent advice here. 2 batteries for sure so you do have a back up for charging like stated above and just in case one breaks. Excellent advice here though.

Personally I started with 2 spinners and a couple tanks. I do enjoy both top and bottom coil tanks. Definitely go with a dual coil/wick though in my opinion. I've got a bunch of Iclear 16's, mainly because they are cheap and easy to clean. Do have a kanger aerotank too, which I like, but am not completely sold on.

I did step up to a mvp2 and love it. The battery is amazing. Still keep a spinner for a backup though, not to mention it fits nicely in my shirt pocket at work to be discreet with.

Go cheap.

I suggest something like this You'll have everything you need to get started, minus the juice. Plus a backup...... especially important if you're trying to quit smoking.

I found mine at a convenience store for $10 a piece.

Those tanks are called CE4s or Stardusts. & I loved mine for the first month or so. I bought a bunch of them online, just incase one went bad or whatever. I never stopped liking them, but I goofed up & tried something else. An Aspire BDC (bottom dual coil). I don't know if it's that it's a dual coil, or that the coil is on the bottom, but it makes a big difference. I loved it so much, I bought another one.

A friend of mine suggested I try a Kanger Pro Tank because the air flow is adjustable, in addition to being a BDC as well. it came in last night & I'm going to fire it up some time this morning.

I was able to find those CE4 tanks for less than $2ea.... the Aspire & the Kanger all ran me $20ea, but I bought them with extra coils as well... so, y'know.

I'm actually not sure what any of that means if you wouldn't mind explaining, I would appreciate it. And thank you to all who replied with suggestions. I'm going to have to do some more research I see.

nomemory, you never mentioned why you're interested in vaping. Are you trying to get a monkey off your back, Or you're just looking for something new?

either way is cool..... if you're trying to kick the habit though, my advice is to go simple. Make it easy on yourself. As easy as going down to the convenience store & buying a pack of smokes.

If you're looking for a new hobby... hang on.... it can get real complicated, real fast, but worth it.

Do bit of YouTube watching, there are hundreds of videos that can help you choose what you are looking for exactly. Many starters so for the brand called eGo c-twist, Kanger evod, and Innokin iTaste VV but they do not vape quite as hard or produce good amounts of vapor. GrimmGreen on YouTube has many videos on charge, fill, and vape devices. There is a big world out there for different vape selections and some trusted YouTube names are Robert Ellis (The Armed Vaper), GrimmGreen, RipTrippers and many more will link you in. Good luck and the vape world welcomes you and your friends.

Thanks all for the great advice. I can see I'm going to have to do a lot more research. I am approaching this with a goal of quitting cigarettes and trying something new. I enjoy smoking but I would like to cut back with the goal of quitting.

That's the only reason I started vaping as well. The hobby side though is starting to grab a hold of me.

But yeah, if you want to quit smoking, I suggest to stop thinking about it & just do it.

Kanger/EVOD for $32.99 back up, charger, everything you need except ejuice.

Not really a lot of money, $16.50 each. You'll get your money's worth out of it & you can always upgrade whenever you like, if you like.

Go to your local smoke shop, vape shop, or convenience store. If you see a rig for $20 or less, get it. If money's no object, grab something you like. Anything, just get started. Buy some eJuice. Around here, the locals usually have stuff ranging from $5.99 to $9.99 for a 10ml bottle. I'd go ahead and get 18 mg or 12 mg strength. Puffing that is as satisfying as puffing a cigarette. If you're used to taking 20 drags on a cigarette, about 20 drags on that liquid should fix you up. If you're used to taking 10 drags, 10 drags on that juice should be about the same. (I know it's not scientifically, or technically correct, but in my experience, it's pretty close).

I was a light smoker & vaped about 1.5 ml/day when I started. That was my equivalent to 7 cigarettes a day. So if you smoke a pack a day at 18mg nicotine, I'd expect you to use about 3 times as much, a little less than 5 ml/day but I don't trust that conversion, I think it's not likely that you'll be vaping that much a day right off the bat.

So anyway, a 10ml bottle should last you about 2 days. You already cut your cost of smoking in half (if you were a PAD smoker). So I'd buy two or three bottles. Should last you anywhere from four to six days.

Then I'd go to mtbakervapor.com $4.99 for a 15 ml bottle great customer service & quick to get your order out. Most likely same day, even on a weekend. I'd buy two or three bottles of whatever flavor you like at 18 mg, then two or three bottles of the same stuff 0 mg. Then you can adjust how much nicotine you're vaping. 1 part 0 mg to two parts 18 mg gives you 12 mg strength. two parts 0 and one part 18 mg gives you 6 mg. You'll probably start vaping more & more, and being able to cut the nicotine strength yourself is going to come in real helpful until you figure it out. Then you can just order the strength that you settle on.

Hey thank you for all the great advice! Ha, I get what you're saying about over thinking it but I research everything before I make a purchase. I've watched quite a few videos on youtube and I really like the innokin mvp 2.0 and the ego twist 1100 mah battery setup. But I think since I am beginning and unsure if I am going to stick with it, I am going with and ego twist as it has the variable voltage and is about half the cost of an mvp. And if I do stick with it, I am definitely going to upgrade to an mvp. Oh and I'm sorry I had to edit a few links out of your quote, I don't have enough permissions to post links.

You have gotten some good advice on gear to get started and it sounds like you are looking in the right direction there.

I would like to really stress to visit some local shops that have tasting bars or sampling. Spend some time trying various flavor groups. Keep in mind flavor varies by the maker just like food varies by the cook.

Your tastes will most likely change alot in the beginning so don't get to much of any one flavor at first. If you do buy one that tastes way different than the sample when you get home put it away in a dark place for a couple of weeks, then try it again.
Sometimes juice needs to steep or age a bit before the flavor truly shines through.

Sounds good. What are you thinking for a tank? I like the Kanger Tanks (I've got an Aero & a PT3) and the Aspire ET (I've got two) I think the BDC (bottom dual coil), which all three are, are an upgrade worth paying for. Really helps the flavor & quality of vape.
