Hey guys so Im new to the technical aspect of things but have been doin some research trying to figure out how to upgrade and I have some questions. Right now I have the smok ego winder with an iclear30 atomizer. I want better vapor production and I feel like this battery isnt hitting hard enough (only going up to 4.8w) and also it doesnt let me hit it for as long as I want.

youtube.com/watch?v=Bo8JykP-r1A&feature=youtu.be <--after watching this im starting to thing maybe i could get the nemesis clone with a variable wattage kick module and that might cloudy things up for me a bit more? Will this atomizer be able to handle that? It says its 2.1ohms but rebuildable so does that mean i could potentially rebuild it to lower the ohms?

Teach meeeee!

It does sound like you need a different topper. I've heard good things about the Kayfun and Kayfun Lite, the Russian, and the Russian 91%. There are others I just can't remember them at the moment. Do a search for RBA's for rebuildable atties or if you wanna drip try RDA's. Many of the RBA's let you do both a drip method and a tank method, pretty cool. I use cartotanks (IBTanked & Phiniac) using Smoktech single coil 2.0 ohm with 2-hole punch and get great vape. I'm not producing mega clouds if that's your thing. The RBA's and RDA's will let you go sub-ohm and you'll need a mech to allow for the lower resistance (ohms) as regulated mods don't go low enough. I'm good with regulated cuz' I'm not a sub-ohmer. If you want to learn to build check out some youtube vids and some posts here on ECF. I also have a good blog on the kanthal gauge, diameter, number of wraps, and the ohm output if your interested. Good luck and Happy vaping! :vapor:

I was originally thinking id need a new top but then tricked myself into thinking i could get away with keeping this one. Iv also heard good things about kayfun lite so ill probably go with that (or maybe a 3.1 for airflow control). As for the battery holders (whats the cool vape name for those?) what are some cheap recommendations? If i put the variable wattage kicker in the nemesis it should allow me more options, no? If not what are some other suggestions?

Kayfuns are like build your own nautilus, with muted flavor and decent vapor. Stick with a kraken, or something you can see the coils touch and torch the juice. There are reo's that meet that and are fine. I for one have a names is clone (hcigar brand) and can vouch for it 100% with the magnet upgrade (instead of springs) and silver pins. (Better contact to battery and shorter "throw" with the button". Toughest part is taking the wrapped coils and screwing them down. Some say its easy, I make things difficult but even still it clouds like a train and tastes like a million bucks! Some say it leaks? I use I boiled organic cotton on dual coil 1.0 ohm builds and it's fantastic!

So as of now
fasttech.com/product/1530400-kraken-genesis-style-rebuildable-atomizer-2-5ml
fasttech.com/products/0/10005773/1448300-nemesis-style-mechanical-mod

this is looking like my shopping list (plus kanthal and cotton) that look about right?

...oh and batteries obviously and possibly one of these guys

My first RBA was a kayfun lite and to me, it was the perfect introduction to rebuildable. A micro coil with organic cotton and you're good to go.. there is obviously a learning curve to everything and you will definitely need to get the resistance and amount of cotton right but once you do? it's awesome!

I personally can't stand genesis style atomizers (like the kraken). I may have a lot more to learn about them but mine always had a tendency to leak… which I can't stand. The kayfun isn't immune to leakage but I've only had issues with mine a few times.

As far as your mod goes… I highly recommend you do some more research on batteries. Knowing how the amp limit of the batteries you choose (how big do you want your mod to be?) and how they work with the resistance you're looking for (1 ohm is a good place for me on my KFL) is so important….

I don't know which Kayfuns you are vaping on, but the ones I have definitely do not mute flavor. As a matter of fact, they rival my drippers. They are easy to build, and they don't leak.

Good luck in your search for a better vape, OP and welcome to ECF.

You'll definitely need to upgrade your gear, and knowledge. There's a few routes that you can pursue for more vapor.

  • The easiest route is to increase the Vg (vegetable glycerin) of your e-liquids. You can custom order the Pg/Vg ratio with most e-liquid vendors. Vg is what produces the vapor in e-liquids. Pg is a better flavor carrier and is somewhat responsible for throat hit. The concentration of nicotine is the biggest determinator of throat hit.

  • Get a more advanced battery device. A regulated VV/VW mod will be the safer choice, as they have built-in protective circuitry to keep you out of trouble. They won't fire an atomizer if there's a short and will refuse to fire or shut down. You can increase the voltage (or wattage) output for a harder hit. You can use any rebuildable atomizer on a regulated mod, but can only build coils around 1.2 ohm or higher. Most regulated mods will not fire lower ohm than that as they see the low ohm as a short.

  • A mechanical mod has no built-in protection. You'll have to rely on your knowledge and observation skills to keep yourself out of trouble. However, if you have the knowledge and observation skills to recognize a short, you can build a sub-ohm or micro-coil on a rebuildable atomizer for the largest clouds possible.

  • A Kick is used in mechanical mods to regulate wattage and allow higher voltage output. It has its limits in how low of a coil it will fire, and also has protection circuitry like a regulated mod has. It essentually transforms a mechanical mod into a regulated mod.

I highly recommend that you educate yourself from the various subject matter in this link:

This.

Start with a regulated MOD of some kind before you explore the world of Mech MODs. They are safer and can perform the task you're looking for easily. I'm using the new Sigelei 20W (though my first MOD was the Innokin Cool Fire 1 - a GREAT first regulated MOD, though the wattage isn't variable but fixed at 8.5W) and I can attest that it will give you huge sums of vapor with a Kayfun, even at much higher atomizer resistances. I'm currently running 2 separate Kayfun 3.1 clones (Hcigar - take note that not all Kayfun clones are built equally), one at 1.7Ω, the other at 1.4Ω and I'm getting clouds of vapor that no clearomizer can dream of matching (even when used on a starter MOD like the Cool Fire 1). If a fixed 8.5W isn't what you seek, you can also look at the Cool Fire 2 which can be set from 7-12.5W via a mechanical ring (as opposed to a dial or buttons), or something like a Provari or iTaste MVP, but I'd go with a regulated MOD of some kind before moving to a Mech MOD. The learning curve is not nearly as steep, and it's a much safer way to move in to the world of MODs.

You can score a new Sigelei 20W and a high quality Kayfun clone for about $120. Get an ohm meter, some organic cotton, and kanthal for another $20-$30 total, and you can be on your way to a great vape for a decent cost in just a few days (it took me about 5 tries with building coils to start to get good ones)

I have both the Kayfun 3.1 and the Russian 91 and throw them on top of my Sigelei 20W. The Sigelei will allow you to go down to .7 ohms with battery protection. It's kind of like a mech that you'll be able to fire at lower ohms just no sub-ohms.

you can pick pne up here for $99.95 which is about the lowest I've see one in the states. Sigelei 20W

The flavor and vapor I get out of the Kayfun and Russian are great, no muted taste. I'm vaping some Honey Peary in one right now and the taste explodes.
