The atomizer in picture #1 is advertised as a LR (Low Resistance) atomizer and when I tested each of the four atomizers it had the highest resistance. WHY???

My multimeter display keeps dimming off so I have not been able to test the ohms. I have a micro digital voltage display connected to the mod I tested all 4 of the atomizer/cartomizers and got how much the voltage dropped for each one. At the time the voltage of the battery I was using was 3.7 volts and the voltage drop for each one was...

#1) 3.7 volts to 3.2 volts = 0.5 voltage drop
#2) 3.7 volts to 3.4 volts = 0.3 voltage drop
#3) 3.7 volts to 3.4 volts = 0.3 voltage drop
#4) 3.7 volts to 3.2 volts = 0.5 voltage drop

Basically what I am trying to figure out is how to make the best atomizer for a high volt mod. I thought I would start with testing some I had laying around and when I got what seemed to be backwards results I was confused. I was going to buy some Nichrome Wire and was trying to figure out what gauge would be best to use to make an atomizer for high voltage. 34, 36, 38, or 40 gauge. I plan on making a quad coil atomizer.

You had the resistance info in the first post and then went and deleted it, but that would be useful info again. Voltage drops don't translate exactly as they also reflect the batteries internal resistance and the mod's resistance. You need a new battery in your DMM, it sends it's own voltage through the circuit to measure resistance, and that battery has had it. With the nichrome wire, the higher the gauge, the thinner the wire so the resistance is higher for the length. Thinner also means it breaks easier (pops). From your choices I would look at 34G or even 32G and consider using Kanthal as well as it takes more heat than nichrome can. I have found 32G kanthal to be quite robust. In short a HV mod needs to be matched with a HR coil.

I changed the battery and even re-wired from the board to the battery in the multimeter but the battery is old even though never been used so I probably need a new battery anyway. I decided soon after my second post to go with the 32 gauge Nichrome but I can buy a bigger size if I need to.

So if I used the 32 gauge Nichrome and made each coil longer than what the standard atomizers are which is very short and made 4 coils vs the standard 2 coil you can purchase then I would be going in the right direction as to matching up a sufficient custom atomizer to a high voltage mod?

Other things I have noticed are the longer the wires are withing the mod itself effect the resistance right?

What about the weight of the atomizer pin and the housing itself does that effect it also?

I have both 32 & 34gaA wire. The 32 measures 1.3ohm/in; the 34 is 2.0/in. So a 3.0ohm coil will need 1.5"of of 34 or 2.3" of 32. Consider the amount of space you have for the coil when picking a wire size. At 2.0ohm I like the 32ga better because I can spread the heat over a couple more coils on the wick.

My roll of 34 comes in handy when I wrap dual coils for my Ody...the helical wind of two 3 ohm lengths takes up a lot of space than with 32...other than that, 34 bugs me :glare:
