Hello. I'm new to e cigs and have been using them exclusively for a month now. I have saved 30 packs of cigarettes since Labor day. But the problem I have now is my chest feels tight after I take a few puffs from my e cig. Has anyone else had the same problem? Does this feeling pass? Because if it doesn't... I don't want to have to ditch my e cig. And I don't want to go back to smoking.

I exercise regularly (3-4 times a week) and with the exception of smoking or now vaping, I would consider myself to be a healthy person.

Two things:

1.) some people have a negative reaction to propylene glycol (pg), an additive in many juices. There are juices available without pg, look into some and see if that helps.

2.) it takes at least three months for your lungs to clean out and the process can be painful. It may just be that.

Been here, gone thru this, still alive. You should be fine, see a doctor if it lasts longer than 6 weeks.

I find that if I vape certain flavors I have the same issues, throat tightening and short of breath....cinnamon and menthol are no-nos for me. Sometimes there is a culprit in the e cigs as Sallana mentioned above, other times it's probably due to damage previously done to us by the cigarettes. From what I've read, smoking cigarettes paralyzes the cilia (tiny hair like structures) that line the lung and throat. Quitting smoking wakes them up, so we are more aware when they are irritated.....this is part of the body's healing process.

I had a similar experience when I quit. Tight chest and light headedness. I did more reading in the forums about what is used to make the juices. First, I can't use more than 30% PG. This is what was causing my chestache. Secondly, I was smoking too high a nic content. I was scared and bought 36mg nic since I smoked over 2 packs a day (I smoked light 100's). I thought the 36mg would stop my cravings. WRONG! I felt like I was stoned. I finally cut it down to 18mg and works fine. Still going lower without any problems. Alot of vendors sell VG based juices with less or no PG in them. If in doubt, ask them. Also discovered that I can't vape stuff from China. Makes me feel weird.

I first bought 24mg because I figured I was using 4mg Nicorette gum to curb my cravings (which we most quitters agree doesn't work) and I did some math and figured that in a sitting I would use 1/5 of a ml so that would be around 5mg of nic in a sitting. But its too harsh for my throat. To my surprise 12mg juice worked just fine in curbing my cravings which leads me to believe that I'm not addicted to nicotine. I am addicted to the motions of smoking.

I doubt it being related to the type of juice, b/c you would feel it in your throat also if it was a juice issue. Try softer drags. Don't drag too hard, or for a long time. 4 to 5 seconds is normal. I used to take hard and long drags to get enough vapor, and I got a pain in my chest. Later, I found out that cartos produce more vapor, so I could drag short, and soft. Take it easy.
