Hello all, new member here. I've been lurking for quite some time and I must say I'm very impressed with the amount of knowledge shared here. It's really helped me out and I feel fortunate to have found this place.

My girlfriend and I have been analog free for a year and haven't looked back since. I've really taken to vaping as a new fun hobby. That said I've gone through quite a bit of equipment.

Started with VV Ego styles and quickly went through 4 or 5 of those. Moved onto The Vamo V3 after some research until those bit the bullet. From there it was SIDs and those are still going strong. Recently added a VTR to the collection and it's now my daily vape. Which brings me to my question.

Today I purchased a King Mech and Kayfun from a local vape shop. Currently I'm using an Efest 2250 MAH IMR 18650 3.7V battery (1.3 ohm resistance). I read somewhere on the forums IMR batteries on a mech mod was not safe. Can someone confirm that or provide a suggestion for new batteries? A search was difficult to locate what I was looking for and I figured this would be a good hello thread.

I'm also new to rebuildables and would love a starting place to learn from if there is such a thing. I've enjoyed the iclear tanks until recently and I'm still looking for the perfect vape. I'm hoping I'll enjoy the Kayfun even more. My local vape shop set it up and it's hitting great right now.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to ecf. I am sure someone will come along that will be able to give you some wonderful suggestions. I just wanted to tell you I'm happy you are here. It is wonderful to have a place where you can find the answer to any questions. I am waiting on a Kayfun Lite and am really excited about it. I started out of the little igo-L drippers and have been so pleased with how well they work and vape. Super easy to rebuild too. Good luck to you and happy vaping. :)

Hello and Welcome! Congrats to you and your wife for kicking the cigarettes and making the switch. ECF is a Godsend for information and support for any vaperer. I'm not sure what help you're needing with your rebuilds but I have a blog with a chart for wire gauges/diameters/# of wraps/ohms/etc....that may be helpful for future reference. I thanked the guy who put it together he did an amazing job. Have fun building and happy vaping! :vapor:

hey fellow noob!

i'll try to answer your question. IMRs are considered a safe chemistry battery and are suitable for mechanical mods. the thing you want to watch out for is your amp draw on your atomizer. you're running a 1.3 ohm coil. batteries come off the chargers around 4.2v. your amp draw is going to be V/R = 3.23A. the efest 2250 you have is rated for a 10A continuous draw, so you're fine. given that battery, you'll want to be careful at a 0.42ohm build. that will pull off a freshly charged battery 4.2/0.42 = 10A draw. any lower resistance than that, and you'll be pulling more than the battery is rated for.
other batteries are going to be rated higher, including the sony VTCs which have a 30A continuous draw rating (continuous discharge rating), which is why they're so well liked by sub-ohmers. but be sure to distinguish between continuous and pulse draw ratings. the new purple efests have an advertised rating of 35A, but what most people fail to mention is that is a pulse rating, not continuous. the continuous rating is actually only 20A. so if you're getting into a sub 0.2ohm build, the failure to make that distinction can seriously tax your efest battery, which may cause it to overheat, which can lead to leaking of the battery, not a good thing.

i believe this information is correct, anyone else care to chime in?

Awesome explanation, thank you very much. That was exactly what I was looking for!
