Awsome machines, fast, very few viruses for them and a really nice O/S.

Problems, they are VERY expensive for what they are vs a PC, the software is expensive and can be hard to find vs PC applications. They are so easy to use it's hard for a person that has had Windows beat into them to operate, it's a high learning curve figuring out how to do things with one mouse button and learning all the keystrokes.
If you want to log into a workplace with a secure network (remote conection to a work computer etc. they are not recognized most times.

But just for surfing, email, book keeping and general use, they are as nice as it gets. Play with them in the store, learn as many tricks as you can there and it will help. But the first thing you have to do is forget everything you already know about a PC:D

PC = 510. Too much work.

:D

 Good one! 100% agree.

I have a macbook pro as well and I love it. I'd agree with Bornagainst, unless you do media intensive work, you don't need the upgrade to the pro model.

I do web design and mm development and the macbook pro is just plain awesome. Zero problems and no fuss. Run Parallels on the mac and you've got a "pc" when you need it (an evil necessity when you do web work).

Good luck on your purchase!

I have a macbook pro.

Unless theres a serious reason why you would need the additional features the extra 200 dollars affords, the regular macbook is more than adequate.

That said, I do love mine. It gets a bit hot on the bottom at times, but thats laptops for you.

I have a macbook myself and my roommate has a Macbook Pro (he does a lot of video and graphic editing for class). I would have to agree with bornagainst here. I use my macbook for home office needs and it suits me fine. I just don't do enough heavy-duty stuff to justify getting the Pro.

Kimmy, if your macbook is still under applecare warranty, they should be more than happy to fix whatever problems you may be experiencing for free. It's been my experience that Apple has some really great customer service.

I know they said they'd fix it for free.. Because I'm in college right now I need something reliable that won't crap out on me. My problem is reliability. I need something that I can rely on that won't keep needing to be fixed. I spilled some juice on it a while back and ever since its been acting weird for obvious reasons. I'm going to the store soon to see what they have..I might just keep what I have. I'm up in the air about it.

I am using a MacBook Pro, but honestly, I think the MacBook would be just fine. I just bought my daughter one for Christmas and it seems to do everything I use mine for. It just cost a lot less! I have bought several computers from the Apple store sale/refurbished area online. It has saved me a lot of money and they come with the same warranty as the new in box. You can also buy Apple Care for them to extend the warranty. Good luck with your decision!
And yes, I'm old enough to own the Mac that is my avatar:D

Im a pc guy but that is mainly because I am a gamer and have been building rigs for years. That is probebly why I like my 510s as well as my kr808's lol.

That said I don't knock on macs and used them myself back when I did digital animation and compositing. If you are looking to upgrade the macbook pro isn't a bad choice but I think a newer macbook would be a better deal performancewise. I would only get the pro if you had to have the all aluminum body or if you want the larger screen. For what a mac is best at performance between the two units should be pretty close so it comes more down to looks and screen size options. Only big differences will be in things like encoding video and gaming. The macbooks are not good for gaming as it is so not a big point. If you aren't doing processor intensive tasks like editing or encoding both units will perform nearly the same.

Also the referb section has good deals sometimes, the link is below if needed.

That's cool..I'm sorta torn on the macbooks..I love the machine..hate apple and hate the bs they're pulling where they aren't honoring applecare warranties for some owners who smoke..
Granted we aren't smokers anymore so that shouldn't matter..

mainly just posting to say that there's a company out there that makes screen protectors and full body protectors for the macbook that just rock..lifetime warranty on em..been using em on my cellphones and mp3 players and psp for over a year now and I'm harsh on devices but they keep things looking brand spanking new..protect that investment ya know.. anyway it's called an Ultimate Shield and can be found at ZAGG | invisibleSHIELD | iPhone, iPod Cases, Screen Protectors, Covers, Shields, Skins, Invisible Shield if you're interested
