I built my first micro coil for my Russian 91% last night and my biggest fear was going to be dry hits or scorching my cotton and have bad flavor. I've been vaping since last night and have none of that but....

I'm getting good vapor and flavor so it must be wicking okay but it sounds so much different than my Silo or any of my Nautilus tanks. So my question is (even though I have many questions) it sounds like my juice is boiling or bubbling. At first I thought my chamber was full of juice, but if that was the case I doubt I'd get any vapor and it doesn't feel flooded.

I watched many coiling and wicking videos so I used a tiny strip of Japanese organic cotton and stripped off the top layer and followed the videos as close as possible so I'm wondering if this sound is common with Russians/Kayfun Lights or if my wick is to thick and over saturating? Even though I've gone through almost a full tank, it still sounds like it's boiling towards the end of the tank.

I don't have any photos right now but I am going to re-wick because the flavor I'm using right now and always liked in my Silo is to heavy/sweet in my Russian. So I can always take photos when I do.

I am thinking the cotton might be too dense in the wick and that's why it's sounding like it's boiling maybe? Or is this more on the normal side on how they sound, it's sort of loud? And sorry if it's a silly question, it's just so different.

I've got about 9 wraps of 28 gauge at 2mm reading 1.5ohms. And man is this thing tiny to work on...everything looked so much bigger on the videos...lol

    It's normal , for me it's a reassuring sound that it's working properly .

This seems to happen more so with Geni's than RTA's; I would try adding a bit more cotton next time, but it will take a tad bit longer to get saturated. You definitely don't need less if that is what you hear.

When I use my Kayfun 3.1 (Russian is somewhat of a kayfun clone), I never get that bubbly sound; it's a smooth draw. However, this will change with higher wattages. The higher you go, the more likely you will hear that sound, but it;s usually not a problem.

Also with the japanese cotton pads, take off the top AND bottom layers; they are both compacted. if you remove them, it will be very fluffy on both sides, and makes it a lot easier to work with imo, though it won't be as strong so dont be too forceful when wicking it,

i get bubbling or crackling sounds if i get some juice on top of the center posts but it burns away, BUT if i do hear that i dont put my mouth on the drip tip as i did that once and HOT juice jumped onto my tongue and burned me :|

so now i just press the firing button until it stops and i just hear the normal sound of the juice heating up

manythings come together to make a bottom wicking atomizer work..
Too little wick and you may get a dry hit from it not being able to keep up with the heat in the coil, too much wick and you choke the coil reducing flow of juice. not tucking your wick tails properly could result in flooding.
Airflow to restrictive and it may be pulling too much juice into the chamber depending on how hard you pull, too much airflow and not enough juice is being pulled into the chamber meaning dry hits are more likely.
Power makes a big difference too - coils that get hotter require better juice flow, but lower powered coils may cause too much juice in the chamber (flooding).
It is a great design, and they are an awesome vape once you get all the variables worked out, but it is very fiddly.

My rule of thumb; cut the wick right at the top of the bottom chimney section, or maybe 1-2 mm above it, and gently push it down in to the sides so it can reach the bottom without clogging up the juice channels.

also make sure when you wick your coil, you can slide the cotton back and forth through it somewhat smoothly; it will expand when it absorbs juice, so you need that little bit of room to not block the flow to the coil
