Ammit MTL RDA
Completely not following in the footsteps of any of the previous versions that came before it, GeekVape has released a new version of the Ammit. Let's be real here, GeekVape kind of just name dropped with this one as all other Ammit's have been RTA's. The one thing this Ammit has in common with all the others is...a name...and a logo. Okay, so two things. I know this is only the introduction and I've already gone on a tangent, but I just had to get that out before I move forward.

The Ammit MTL RDA comes at a time where it seems that all mfgs are trying to cater a bit more to the MTL-ers and Salt Nic-ers. This RDA has a plethora of airflow options and is leak proof to boot! But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's jump off this review and start at the best place possible: the top.

Drip Tip: The Ammit MTL RDA utilizes a 510 connection for the drip tip and comes with various options to choose from. Provided are 3 drip tip options: two snubby, delrin tips and one taller metal tip. The shorter delrin tips screw into a small 510 base that can then be inserted into the RDA. All of the tips have a nice, comfortable curvature to them and I like that there are various options to choose from. This really let's you dial into your preferred vape. However, I ended up using my own drip tip as I like my vape a bit airier than what the included tips could provide.

Barrel/Airflow: The top of the barrel houses the airflow control ring. This is where half of the magic happens for this atty. There are various different typs of airflow options you can choose. The airflow comes in the form of 5 airflow holes in varying diameter which can be opened or closed utilizing either a large slit in the AFC or a small hole. The slit is wide enough to open all 5 airflow holes at once. Each hole can then be closed off is succession leading from largest down, or smallest up. If you really want to hone in your airflow, the AFC has a hole option that can be used to choose each of the 5 airflow holes individually. All in all, there are 12 different airflow options that range from true MTL to restricted DTL.

There's really not much else to say about the barrel other than the fact that the inside houses the double-walled section used to direct the airflow downward and through the deck. Air is fed through holes at the bottom sides of the deck and channel up through the coil at varying angles.

Build Deck: The deck on the Ammit MTL RDA is a pretty unique design and is where the other half of the magic comes into play. The deck is a two post, single coil design with three airflow holes that cradle the coil and a large juice well below. The deck posts extend upward from the deck on one side and use phillip head screws to clamp the wire leads. Holes for the wire leads are decently sized and big enough to fit the types of coils you would want to put into a MTL RDA. Seating coils is extremely easy on this deck and there are no obstructions on either side that keep you from adjusting your coil to where it needs to be.

The airflow design on this deck is really quite nice. The positive post is a sort of "block" that extends across the center of the deck and houses two angled airflow ports and one bottom airflow port. Air is fed into two slits below the deck on either side of the "block" and comes up through the airflow ports into direct contact with your coil. The design of the airflow is quite ingenious here and pretty much what we've come to know from GeekVape.

Finish: The black variant that I received has a media-blasted texture to the barrel and bottom of the deck. The 510 drip tips and airflow ring have more of a semi-polished or brushed look to them. Emblazoned across one side of the barrel is the Ammit logo. The finish is pretty nice on the atty and the paint has held up pretty well.

Performance: This RDA is a pretty decent performer for an MTL atty. It has some really nice airflow options and gives okay flavor. Flavor is not super intense, but it's what I expect out of an MTL/restricted DTL device. I used one of the coils that comes packaged with the device, but ended up on some AVS clapton coils; SS316L, 28g x 36g. I primarilly used the RDA as restricted DTL because it is more in line with how I like to vape. The airflow is nice and smooth and the large juice well is great, especially for squonking. I found the Ammit MTL RDA to work really well on a squonker, especially since I didn't like dripping down the middle of the device since the 510 has to be removed in order to do so. Also, the device does seem to be very leak resistant as advertised. I found myself over-squonking on many occassions without ever having an issue with leaking. I'm sure I could have forced a leak, and no atomizer is going to be leak proof, but it is definitely leak resistant.

Final Thoughts
Pros

  • Various drip tips
  • Nice curvature to the tips
  • A large range of airflow options
  • top-to-bottom airflow design
  • Easy to build
  • Airflow cradle around coil
  • Large juice well
  • Nice finish
  • Decent flavor
  • Leak resistant design
Cons
  • Could have been named something else
  • Drip tips a bit too restrictive for a restricted DTL draw
  • Prepackage coil wasn't anything special
  • Flavor could be better
As an option for MTL or restricted DTL vaping for those that don't care to embrace the pod system craze, the Ammit MTL RDA is a really nice option. The airflow is very smooth and well designed as we have come to expect from GeekVape. The deck is very easy to build and the large juice well makes this a great atty for squonking. I could have done with more flavor, but it's what I expect from these types of devices. MTL is not really my style of vaping, so I will not continue to use this device, but I can definitely see this as a good option for those that do.
