These are instructions to build a 510 Box mod Kit. We provide them for the enthusiast who has thought of building their own mod but didn't think they would know where to start. We tried to make them simple and easy to understand. You can get a larger view of each image by clicking on it. Tools needed to perform this mod are a soldering iron, solder, hot glue gun or some other adhesive, wire cutters/strippers, and needle nose pliers. Good luck and have fun with it!

You will start with a 2AA Battery box with pre-drilled holes for the horn switch (A) the L.E.D. (B), and 510 sealed gold connector. Notice the wires (C) still extend out of the box. Slide the wires back through the hole so that they are not extending outside the box. With needle nose pliers remove the battery contact with the spring (D) that has the black wire attached to it if it is not already removed.

Fold over the metal tab on the battery contact with spring (D) and place it in the slot on the opposite side of the battery channel with the battery contact with the red wire attached to it. Using Wire strippers cut the excess off the red wire (E) leaving enough of the wire to make a connection to the horn switch. Strip the end of the wire. Then cut about 1.5 inches of the excess red wire and strip both ends. Solder one side to the 510 sealed gold connector (F). Then slide the connector into the predrilled hole on the end of the box.

Insert the horn switch into the predrilled hole. Solder the red wire (E) to side 1 of the horn switch. Do not solder the other wire yet. As shown in the figure solder one side of the resistor (G) to the L.E.D. (H).

Snip off the excess metal after the soldering point of the resistor (G) and the L.E.D. (H). Insert the LED (H) into the predrilled hole. Insert the other end of the resistor (G) through side 2 of the horn switch (A). Bend the other end of L.E.D (H) around to the outside of the 510 sealed gold connector (F).

Solder the resistor (G) and the wire (I) coming from the 510 sealed gold connector (F) to side 2 of the horn switch. Cut off any excess metal or wire with wire cutters. Then solder the black wire coming from the battery contact with spring (D) and the L.E.D (H) to the outside of the 510 sealed gold connector (F) At this point you can add a battery and a cartomizer or atomizer and test if your mod works. If it does then we just need to finish a few things, if not then check all of your solder points. Once you are getting the mod to vape you can proceed.

Place a healthy amount of hot glue in the channel with the electronics. This serves to hold everything in place and to make sure that your solder points don’t break.

If you have a clamp, replace the cover to the mod and clamp the switch down as shown so that the button is completely seated into the mod. Do not apply too much pressure with the clamp; just enough to keep the button in place. Wait several minutes for the hot glue to set and you are ready to vape.

Madvapes is an awesome vendor, with amazingly fast order processing, even with large orders.

These little 3.7 box mods are quite simple to build, and work incredibly well for such a small little package. I would recommend the 3.7 box with the switch because there is a catch to keep the battery compartment closed. If you get the one that that does not have a switch, it is nice, but you will need 2 rare earth magnets around 10 mm in diameter to keep the door closed. Hot glue gun is all you need if you go the magnet route. Let me know if you need any help building it.

Edit: not sure which one they use in the kit, but get the kit because the holes are already drilled, and drilling the holes can be challenging, and takes practice to drill them properly. The kit is definitely worth it if you are only building one.

If you price out the box, connector, resistor, led, and switch separately you only save a buck or so, so it's worth just buying the kit to save yourself the hassle of drilling unless you want different components or want to locate them differently.

I keep mine simple and just skip the led and resistor. I guess I'm past needing a light to tell me whether it's working or not. It makes it easier to stealth with the thing too. If you go this route just fill in the led hole with epoxy or silicone when you're glueing your connector in place and use a razor blade to carefully shave off any excess from the outer surface.

Yea madvapes is awesome, here's some pics of my best looking 510 that I've made. I used a 5mm blue LED and kept it internal since the box is transparent. It would probably look a bit cleaner if I had used epoxy rather than hot glue but I hate working with epoxy, it's a huge PITA.

And here's my full collection (so far), the VV on the right with the voltage indicator is still under construction awaiting parts because I screwed something up when putting it together so I'm still troubleshooting it. And the Blue lightning tube mod is a 5v, the black coffin mod is 3.7v.

I'd suggest you get some AW IMR 14500's. They perform better than all the others I've tried. The next best after IMR's are the Trustfire flames 14500's which Madvapes sells for $4.29 apiece. I've also got a pair of gray Ultrafires and don't care as much for them.

This is dead on, nuff said...

Batts can be had cheaper from DealExtreme (chargers are about the same price), but you'll be waiting for several weeks, as they ship from Hong Kong.

I've built so many boxes with parts from Madvapes, I've lost track... family, friends, etc. I'm almost at 1,000 points over the last year (so I dropped a grand, yikes), and there have only been one or two of their items I wasn't totally happy with. Great vendor, and they'll prolly get at least another $1k of my money in the next year as well.

If you buy the parts individually, you'll want an 11/32 drill bit for the battery connector, plus a bit for whatever switch you use. A dremel with a rotary saw bit is a handy thing. I use epoxy for all the parts; hot glue doesn't hold enough under the wear I hit them with. BTW, I built some for my bosses wife, and at the last 4th of July party (pool party in Mandeville, LA), we discovered that... they FLOAT. At least briefly, lol. Long enough to snatch 'em out of the water....

Nice write up!, hey if I use this

Tranparent Green 2xAA Battery Box with On/Off Switch
with 2 14500 3.7 inside Would the output be 7.4v (like staking) or would it be parallel and just have more mah? I was thinking of putting this inside a bigger box to make a VV mod but if its only more mAh then it wont work :S THX!

It depends on how you wire it. If you go + to + it'll be in parallel and produce the same voltage as a single battery but double the mah's. If you go + to - it'll be in series and double the voltage but the mah's will stay the same as a single battery. If you're building your own you can choose. MV sells a VV board kit that'll fit in a 3 x AA box which you'd wire in series.

Thx for the reply. I wanted to use that aa box, inside of an altoids can, using the Rev2 kit (i think thats the name). with the connector that has the bottom nut (fking expensive) and some kind of small switch. (this is my first project I sitll dont know Shi* about ....*). Im gonna place an order on amazon to get all the tools (Drill soldering iron..etc) I also wana get some small spools of red/black wires. Know where I can get thos? and if so, got a link? :p thanks!
