I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to make custom sized copper springs at home?

wrap thick copper wire around a properly sized dowel or drill bit. Should work about like that, but it really depends on how hard the wire is as to whether or not it will keep its shape. Look up different types of copper wire, it needs to be a solid piece.
I don't think there is such a thing as a copper spring; it's too soft. All the sprung contacts I have ever seen are brass. It will be a particular type of brass, heat treated in a certain way. The data is probably out there in Google-land.
Edit: I went on the Internet and I found this: Spring Brass Wire - Coils
I found other things suggesting that springs are generally not brass but might be such things as iridium plated steel or phosphor bronze, both of which might look like brass.
