Hello there,

Is it possible to make fruit extracts for DIY e-liquid by using VG instead of Vodka or PG, for example? I've looked everywhere and few suggested that it is possible, but I want to know for sure if it's gonna work and was hoping somebody else experimented with it.

Did any of you try it? I'm planning to make my own fruit extracts to put on a DIY e-liquid.

Also, would something like this work for DIY e-liquid? http://simplysugarandglutenfree.com/homemade-sugar-free-alcohol-free-vanilla-extract/

I started a thread similar to this about using spice in DIY liquid before I found yours. Yes you can infuse VG with anything, the infusion/steeping takes some time though. My concern with any vegetable or protein matter is keeping mold, bacteria and the like from forming during that infusing/steeping process. Using alcohol to infuse the flavor is faster and I believe safer from a biologic standpoint, but it appears that you don't wish to use alcohol and looking at your location may not be possible or acceptable. My question is at what level of the leftover particulate is safe for vaping equipment (how meticulous does one have to be about straining the VG base)?

It might be safer from a biologic standpoint for you to find a prepared fruit flavor and go from there...

Not being able to find different brands of pre-made fruit flavors is the reason I'm interested in doing this. Not only that, I wanted to see the difference between the flavors I got from stores and naturally made flavors. It's more for the experience and the fun in doing this that I'm asking about it. Alcoholic products are available here in my country, including Vodka, and can be easily purchased.

I just want to know if it's possible to make it using only 100% VG, and I'd rather stay away from Alcohol (unless it is the only way). Also, I mainly wanted to use VG to make flavors that are VG based, since all the pre-made flavors I have are PG based.

Hmm Bacteria and Safety.. Good questions. I hope someone with the knowledge can share their experience with us.

Another question: Is it possible to filter the steeped VG flavor using coffee filters? If not, what is a good filtering process for thick liquids? (Since VG is too thick a liquid)

Thank you, Soignee!

There are lots of posts about extracting fruits. I went thru painstaking testing with every idea I could throw at it, in vg, in pg, in alcohol... you cannot extract the natural sugars without distillation, or CO2 extraction. Using rinds alone doesnt work either. Neither does pulp. Letting it "steep" in vg, pg, or alcohol doesnt work either. Dried fruits are also a no go, its even more concentrated sugar.

And no amount of straining will filter out the sugar.

You can make it, and vape it, but it will absolutely trash your coils ultra fast. Mine would die sometimes in minutes.

By all means tho, feel free to try. Maybe you can come up with a method that works.

Dried herbs, coffee, teas, tobaccos, spices, flowers.... go fo it. They all work in any base. Some with better results than others. Coffee filters work fine, but triple strain it for best results. Three times thru a fresh coffee filter each time.

Thanks a lot! This was really helpful :)

Do you think mint leafs and herbs would work well with VG? I was thinking of starting with coffee beans and mint leafs.

Yep, but I find dried and ground (medium grind, not coarse or fine ground) will give better results all around. If you want to do fresh mint or herbs macerate them very well and let them sit in the base for up to a month. Or do heat extraction in a water bath via a crock pot on low for several hours. Some things may get bitter tho with heat extraction, like coffees... even that is all trial and error tho. I get great and fast results via heat extraction and dried herbs, tea, coffees but it can vary.

That's all I needed to know to get me started. Again, thank you very much! :)

Here is a good article on straining, they are doing alcohol, but it will work fine with VG. Straining and Filtering Liqueurs | Boozed + Infused
Another option. Higher tech, but less steps. Bag Filters / Sock Filters / Water Sock Filters / WVO Filters / Oil Filters / SVO Filters - 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 200 , 400, 600 Micron / Size 1, 2, or 3 Sock Filters- Utah Biodiesel Supply 100 micron should be plenty, but they go finer.
