Figured I'd just start a thread here to post my experience with the ecig. Individually, this stuff would be spread over a bunch of threads and I'd rather just put it all in one place.

Just started vaping, got my 401 from ruyandirect begining of this month. Got the starter kit, an extra atomizer, and 30 mL of mint (low). I smoked (still do, just less) Capri menthol 120's, about 1/2 pack a day.

I'd read a lot on the forums before buying and before even getting my kit. Went with the 401 for size, price, and I knew someone locally who'd buy it off me if I didn't like it. Wanted low initial investment, low risk.

Ruyandirect: no complaints. Good price, took about 7 business days to arrive, no customs holdup. The lack of update on the shipping tracking was annoying, but that's not their fault. I was sweating customs for lack of information about my order. My roomate ordered the same setup I did at the same time, so we were both pretty worried until it cleared.

Day 1: The wait for the battery to charge was intolerable. Once it did, however, getting going was easy. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't replacing a smoke right away for me. Liquid was nice and minty, reminded me of Mint Medley tea. No throat hit, really, kinda weak vapor, but fun and tasty. I even liked the liquid on the prefilled carts. My roomate got the TAB flavor, weak vapor, but almost too harsh at first.

Day 2: lots of problems, really annoyed at the thing. Hard draw, weak vapor, low flavor. Looked at the atomizer and realized it was totally swamped with liquid. Fixed the next day with a cleanout (blew it out and rinsed with water) and added some glycerine (about 20%) to the liquid to thicken it up.

Day 3: thicker liquid lost some flavor, but wow! the vapor difference. Way more satisfying to see those big plumes. Still no throat hit to speak of. Atomizer seemed to heat up a bit more with the thicker liquid, but not uncomfortably.

After that I forget when I tried different things, but here's a few:

Lorann's mint chocolate chip flavoring: had it lying around from some candymaking a while back. It was terrible in the candy. Added a little to the liquid and it was great! Cocoa more than milk chocolate, nice and minty. Wife says it smelled like hazelnut (which she and I both hate), but all I tasted was cocoa and mint. Other flavorings we had handy were not so good. Vanilla extract was too weak, pineapple was just bitter and nasty, others were tasty, but too subtle. Need stronger flavorings.

Somewhere around day 5 or so my regular cigarettes stated to taste like total crap. I still crave them, there's something the esmoke isn't providing, but they taste like...freeze dried hair burning? So, puff the smoke, chase with a minty vape, repeat. Expected some nic overdose, didn't happen.

Part of the motivation for starting was our first child, born in december, who's waking up now, so that'll do for a first entry.

Welcome to the forum!
Nice review, hope it keeps working for ya. don't give up!!!

I have been analog free 55 days today. NEVER thought it would happen. first day was AWFUL but got through it. I was lucky enough to quit as soon as I got my 801.

There is also a "learning" period that you have to figure out. It is WAY different than smoking an analog. You will find out what is best for you. Throat hit was not too important to me except for when I had a few beers. as long as i feel the vapor I am good!

i am switching to a non-PG formula to see if that is what is causing my red, itchy dry patches of skin. Three weeks in I thought it may be nic withdrawal since I am very low dose, but 7 weeks into it am now thinking ALLERGY. Also the little soreness in my nose. Over all still worth not smoking a nasty cig.

Another thing that was helpful is I keep a small little notepad of daily usage, times I vape, aches and pains, etc.

Good luck and good for you and your family! I have 2 kids myself and being a smoker I was not a very good role model. I hope they never do and the smell of it on my smoker friends now is terrible. (We all used to smell like that)

I did the same thing with the VG. Same result with the big plumes. I don't care for the sweetness of the VG either. The novelty of a big plume wore off quickly for me. I mean, most of these devices give off more vapor than any analog I ever smoked so I don't see the point in it. In fact, I don't always get all the vapor exhausted with my exhale.

It's funny how one's criteria changes quickly. First it's the feel of the device ("it's gotta feel like a cig in my hand!"), then it's vapor. <sigh>

Now (about two weeks in for me) it's all about consistent throat hit and endurance. Next week, who knows. =)

Congrats on the new family addition!

Overall, it's not really replacing cigarettes for me, just giving me something when I can't smoke or while I'm trying to delay having a smoke. My wife thinks it's hilarious that my cigs taste so terrible now, so she encouraged me to get a bunch of flavors (arrived today).

Seeing that plume just visually lets me know I'm taking in nicotine, just wasn't satisfying without it. It also thickens the vapor so I feel it more on the inhale. I'm thinking throat hit is what's keeping me from being able to drop the cigs. Not sure what I'll try next, I like a lot of what i'm reading on the Janty Stick.

Other things I've learned:
My 401 atomizer took exactly one week to break in. Literally one week later, puffing away in the car, and suddenly performance and flavor seemed so much better! Just out of nowhere!
That atomizer died less than a week later, after 10 hours in the car, the last two in D.C. traffic on the way to the hotel, gridlock, roundabouts, and inability to properly curse with baby in car. It got to the hotel and once I tried it in the room, cold. I had a spare, thankfully.
Clove flavoring is really strong and it takes way less than I imagined to flavor a few mL of liquid. My first try was WAY strong. Nice at first, I like strong clove, but got tiring when it wouldn't go away. Tastes more like clove candy than clove cigs.
Cheap vanilla flavoring worked fine for a hint of vanilla, the stuff we had listed PG as the first ingredient, so could almost be vaped straight. With my mint based liquid it was very tasty.
Driving with the window down will *sometimes* but not always set off the battery resulting in a blistering hot atomizer. In my shirt pocket. Had to unscrew the atomizer a bit and set it down to cool, but no damage.
Just finished a basic juicy box mod (3xAAA) and played with it a bit before the old rechargables I had in it needed to charge back up. Atomizer seems to be working better now for some reason.
I've lost one atomizer, roomate lost both of his (just got replacements today, litecig), and am ordering a bunch from central trade along with kits, bats, ect for some other friends. Hope that goes well.
Ruyan direct has a 1 yr warranty, if you can keep yourself from tearing the broken parts apart out of sheer curiosity. I couldn't. Apparently to mail small parts back is just a couple bucks, same for them to ship the replacements. Lesson learned. Hopefully.
My baby (5 months) finds the glowing blue LED FACINATING. She also likes small, grabable objects. Keep out of reach of children, not only because of the nicotine, but because the second thing she does is bang things on other things, and that's not good for the ecig.
Took apart a dead battery, looked like the positive wire lost connection, since it disconnected after everything slid out of the housing. Used connector to mod, so I wasn't upset at all. These things are really tiny and fiddly inside. Same for atomizers.

I had notes. I write notes all the time to keep track of billing at work. I can't find the @#$% notes on my ecig learning curve. Of course, I read tons of stuff here before buying and had a fair idea of what to expect beforehand. It helped.
