Maryland, My Maryland (and other foolish tales)...

So after a number of years away, I was able to make the move back east. While I'm super excited to be back, I discovered that the state went and banned the shipment of snus while I was away down south. Now I won't say that I'm necessarily looking for ways to skirt the law (that would be wrong after all), but I do wonder if anyone else here is from the great People's Republic of Maryland and how they're getting their snus fix these days? It seems the shops that carry are pretty few and far between. Driving to Baltimore or up to Jersey seem to be my only options right now. I mean I'll do it, but don't have to like it, right?

Hi Allco. Have you checked with snuscentral? You could always have it shipped to someone else and then have them mail it to you.

I haven't, but I'll give them a look. I'll be a little surprised if some of the Swedish shops give a fig about some random state law, but I've been surprised before. I've probably got enough people who owe me favors who would be willing to get in on that scheme if it gets down to it. ;-)

I would also check the snuson forum. I know there are a few folks over there from Maryland. They may have figured out away around... it.

I would think the Swedes would mail it anywhere. They care about the state regs as much as they care about PACT. If they mark the contents as tobacco on the box, UPS might not deliver it in MD.


Anyone else catch this on the news tonight? Iceland outlaws cigarettes, makes them prescription-only

Thanks, Firechick! I did some checking around last night and think I may have found a work around. Won't go into any detail here in the open though. I should know in a couple of days if it gets through all the wickets unmolested. ;-)

FC, I posted two links to stories about just those topics on the other side of the tracks. One was using all the "there's no safe level" for alcohol and the other about the obesity "epidemic". The population on earth is growing at an astronomical rate and all the do gooder's to their pocketbooks can worry about is controlling someone else's life.

Well, the good news is that the Swedes apparently don't worry too much about individual state laws. The latest crisis has been averted, though I'm sure by the time I'm ready to put in the next order someone out there in officialdom will do something else to save me from myself. ;-)

Good to hear ExPat. I had been looking at the map since I was heading to Va in about a month trying to find a reroute that could help you out. It wouldn't have worked well.

However, if you run into issues in the future let me know. We really aren't that far apart. About a 40 mile ride for each of us could get an order to you.
