Mech getting hot

First time posting and using tapatalk, but I had bought a 4nine by tarsius last night with a sony vtc5(had 3 generics for a tesla) and plume veil rda, anyways this morning I wanted to see if my aspire nautilus (1.8 ohm vertical coil) would work, sits flush and looks pretty tried a generic first for a couple of secs no vapor no sizzle, battery felt a little hot at the top, so I tried the vtc5 figured it was safer pressed the button twice for about a second so sizzle no vapor, mech was instantly hot enough for me to drop, out of panic I unscrewed everything and the top of my vtc5 had a little scorch mark on it and was damn well hot, any ideas on why this is happening? Looks to me like there is probably a short in the top cap (inside the top cap where the positive battery terminal mates to the inside of the mod). That's the most likely candidate that I can think of for getting a scorch mark on the top of your battery. Take your nautilus off and remove the top cap from the mod. Check for short/leakage from the center post to the outer piece of the housing. It should show "open" on your DMM.

It's my understanding that the 4nine has an unmoving 510 connection; it's up to your atomizer to adjust down to make the connection. I don't have a Nautilus (nor a 4nine), but I would guess the 510 from the nautilus doesn't come down quite enough. That 510 connection is a good source for shorts, with the 4nine.

Welcome to ECF WTFisjuice.

Yup, most definitely a short. You are drawing way too many amps from the battery. Stop using it until you figure out where the short is or you will cause the battery to vent and then it's garbage.

Most likely it's in the atty as SupplyDaddy said or in the mod's 510 connection the atty screws onto. Pull out your digital multimeter or ohms checker and check things out. If the atty is good, it's the mod.

Sorry, Juice... I know that sometimes I can come off a little harsh, I assure you that I am not trying to be... :)
I am an electronics technician by trade and have been vaping for about 5 years... it seems to be a pretty simple issue to me and I have a hard time making myself think about how other people see things... to me a scorch mark on the top of the battery is a pretty dead give-away that the problem is very close to the battery... I haven't seen a bad/shorted coil scorch the batt... make the batt overheat? Absolutely... but not scorch it near the positive terminal... you may find that the insulator in the top cap is bad... or a small piece of wire/solder/metallic trash is stuck inside the bottom end of the top cap that is causing your short... I hope that it will be a simple fix for you...

No not at all I have done electrician work in the past and actually about to start work at my local vape shop, but I failed to look at the very probable stuff I thought it was my mod/battery

Heehee... trust me, I've been bitten in the kiester by things that I darn well should have known better about too!!

Damn I don't know if I could convert to big mods. I find that with my ego and evod glass edition, I get plenty of vapor and taste already.

Give it time, my friend.... give it time...
There was a point in history where I recall being thoroughly satisfied with a Joye 510 battery and atty/cart...
Now I'm trying to figure out how to get more out of my sub-ohm dripper without having to step up to a 26650!

I think I'm SOL I've watched reviews about some 510s being too long for the 4nines top cap and I guess the nautilus is one of them, only thing I can see fixing it, would be to not thread the clearo all the way down, but that's lame, guess I won't be using the nautilus on my mech

Run the RDA on your mech and keep the Nautilus and pair it up with a MVP or something....
