Gentle cleaning........ I use Dawn and a microfiber cloth. Easy and just works on the body, top and bottom caps. Threads too.
Deep cleaning........ Brasso metal polish and cleaner. No abrasion whatsoever. Works on brass, copper and stainless steel. LOL, it just works on nearly every metal. I use it on the body, top and bottom caps. Threads too.
Have also used Cape Cod metal polishing cloths. You get two 4"x6" pre-moistened cloths in a package. Works nicely with no abrasion. They also sell a tin with several cloths. They work. Prefer Brasso though.
Misc Tips:
The key with all mechs is to keep all the threads (including the 510 threads) and battery contacts clean AF. For the threads and battery contacts I use Brasso.
For the battery contacts I many times use an eraser; like the kind you find on a #2 pencil. Also use the eraser to clean the positive and negative ends of
batteries; over time those do get "grungy". With mechs it is especially important to keep any part that comes in contact with a battery clean AF; provides better contact for power (Very Important!).
Lastly, always inspect your battery prior to using in any mech. Make certain the wrap is solid (no tears, kinks or damage). One does not want any metal showing through a battery wrap (common
sense!). Obviously, any damage to the battery will result in a very VERY unpleasant time for the mech user.
Before using any mech I always clean the mod and the 510 pin of the RBA. I've never had any issues or problems with my mechs. If taken care of mechs will last longer than any human life (this is true!).
Here are a some of mine along with what I used to clean them:
Epic Design Studios SMPL (hybrid) Naval brass; paired with a KRMA RDA - cleaned with Brasso. Most of the time I prefer the "weathered" look on the SMPL and then just deep clean the battery cap threads + a light cleaning of the body with Dawn.
Cleaned the SoV (stainless steel) with one of the Cape Cod pre-moistened cloths; paired with a KHW Mods Dvarw DL RTA.
Cleaned the 7/8's mod by Fallout Mods with Brasso; paired with a Shogun RDA. There is NO abrasion; that's the natural finish on the body of the mod. It's a Nickel body with Naval brass on the bottom and top caps.
Surefire Vapors knurled brass King (cleaned with Brasso); paired with a Van & Del Design The Soul S RDA. Again, most of the time I prefer a "weathered" look on the body; then deep clean the threads on the top and bottom caps with Brasso.
Cleaned the Dos Equis mech squonker with Dawn; paired with a FLVR RDA; with one of my guitars. LOL
I have many other mechs, some I've posted photos of over the years on the forum. Some I've never posted pics. Most are in storage ATM.
That's all I know and what has worked for me over the course of many years.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
PS:
@MLEJ you will find this useful. While writing this post I suddenly remembered that I promised you something like this a long while back (like years back). I am very sorry for the delay Em. Truly sorry. Please forgive me.
ETA: Obviously, clean the insides of your mech mods with Brasso, Cape Cod or Dawn. Forgot to add that in the post. LOLz
