Hi guys,

I just bought my first mech mod - A mutation X clone. I bought it with a mutation x v2 rda clone and it looks great.

However, I put my subtank nano on it, as I haven't yet received my kanthal wire in the post, and when fired, the whole mod gets EXTREMELY HOT. By this, I mean the firing button is too hot to touch, even after 1 second of firing. I have adjusted the center pin in accordance with the subtank as the 510 on it is relatively long.

I am using an LG battery, with a continuous discharge rating of 20A. The subtank nano coil is 0.8 ohms so it isn't pulling over 20a. I really don't know what is wrong.
I have tried another tank on my mod, a ....ty aspire tank with a 2.6 ohm coil and it works great. No heating or anything.

Is this a problem with the mod itself or just the case of using a higher number of ohms? Also, if it helps, the battery gets hot/warm, but not as hot as the firing button.

Thanks.

sounds like an issue with the 510 connection on the subtank to me. or an issue with the coil you have in it.. have you tried swapping out the coil and seeing if it still does it?

I haven't, as I have no other subtank coils an cannot rebuild as I don't have kanthal wire yet. Is it normal for people to have to change the center pin position in mech mods in accordance to tank?

seems the problem is on the subtank nano

Yes; you back out the mod centerpin so you can screw your tank all the way in without a gap, then screw in the centerpin.

I leave my tanks/topper permanently attached to topcaps.

Okay, I guess it is. On the mutation x V2 rda clone it came with i put on the coils that came with it (they're bad I know). It fired fine, although I cannot remember if it heated up or not. Probably the latter as if it had have heated up I would've remembered. I'll try my friends atlantis on it and see what happens. Thanks.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if it was just the mod I bought. Also, once my battery has heated up like with the nano, is it still safe to use? It hasn't exploded (obviously), but I just want to be on the safe side. I have two Samsung IMR 20A/35A coming tomorrow so its not a problem if I cannot use it (The heated battery was an LG one, 20/35 rated.)

What LG battery are you using?
Sounds like something is shorting out the batterry. A 0.8 ohm coil won't heat up a 20A cell much at at all...certainly not like you experienced.

Once the cell has cooled off for a few hours, someplace safe and non-flammable, check for damage. Is the wrap melted at all? Can you detect a solvent-type odor at the top of the cell? If, after several hours of cooling and stabilizing (internal reactions can continue for at least this long after a short circuit), the cell seems OK then I think you might be able to use the cell. But, as a safety precaution, I am recommending never using that cell again. It's just not worth it and you've probably damaged it some, which reduces the time it will run and make it run hotter. Toss the LG battery.

Don't use your Samsung's until you find the problem though! Don't want to zap the new batteries too. :)

It is an LG HE4 battery. There is no damage to the outside, apart from very small grey/black marks on the negative contact.

Sounds like a short, probably overtightening as stated above. Never tighten anything with force, everything should close flush. What kinda pin does that mech have? Personally i prefer mechs with floating pins as i find the process of adjusting per atty annoying.
Overtightening of the atty to the mod? Or from the adjustable contact to the battery?

That's definitely a short, it may definitely be unsafe for further use, HE4s are solid cells and have been tested at super low ohms for extended lengths of time, but regardless there could be internal damage. Check the insulators and make sure there aren't any spots where the positive end of the battery could touch more than the pin.

Ok, thanks. The HE4's are good cells and wouldn't get that hot unless severely overloaded or shorted.
Just received my coils. Put in a single .4 ohm coil and it fired beautifully. No heating of the mod at all. It must be the subtank.
Final question now! Could the subtank have caused my sigelei 30w to break? It won't fire any atty and cannot detect them either, yet it fires slightly. It happened when using the subtank.
