Sorry I can't help with the $20 mech mod (I've never ordered from FastTech) but I can help with the education you are going to need to use a mech mod & rebuildables safely.
I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (one of our resident battery experts) and visit his blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader and a voltmeter or DMM so you can measure your builds, check for shorts and measure the remaining charge on your batteries.

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US. (Sorry I don't have links for other parts of the world)

If you don't want to wait for several weeks (fast tech can take a long time), you can also check out angelcigs. I bought my first mod from them. In addition to what Susan~S said above, watch a lot of videos, read through the forums here, and educate yourself. I can't stress safety enough times. Mods can be a rewarding experience but please be safe.
