A mechanical mod has no wires, electronics, regulation,...or protection. Mech mods have a mechanical switch that feeds the output of the battery to the atomizer attached to it.

Mech mods are usually recommended only for more advanced vapers due to the lack of protection.

The most important part to me, besides no safety features obviously, is the "no regulation" part.

Meaning when you put a fully charged battery (4.2V) in a mech mod, the mech mod will fire at 4.2V. As the battery's voltage drops, that changes the voltage output to the atomizer. Meaning that within an hour or so, you're not firing at 4.2V, you're firing at 3.8V.

"Regulated" mods have the ability to step up/down according to what you set the wattage/voltage to.

I would say as a general rule if you don't know what a mech mod is you probably don't want one. You need to understand ohm's law, battery safety and would likely want to use an RBA style tank to ensure you can build to specs you are comfortable with. I would recommend starting out with a regulated digital mod and research mechanical mods for awhile until you feel comfortable with an unregulated device.

Mech mods are fully mechanical, and only have one part that can fail. That part is the spring. Especially for sub ohm vapers. The temp from the battery causes the spring to lose tension.

Some have magnetic switches, which will still fail, but not for about 45,000 years.

Otherwise a mech mod is only a tube that fits a battery. As someone said previously, mechanical mods are for advanced users. I vaped for over a year before I bought my first mech, a Smoktech Fury-S. (Kind of a piece of crap really) My SMPL Mech, mated to a VPRS Thundercloud
