I'm in the market for a back-up PV (and eventually a back-up for the back-up, of course). I've been very happy @ 3.7 volts with LR attys & cartos. The idea of a mechanical mod, with as little to go wrong as possible, appeals to me. After some internet searching & review reading I think I've narrowed it down to two: the Megalodon & the Omega. I like both of their looks, size ("small" 18650 mods) & price point. The question is: If they got into a fight outside of a dive bar late one night which one would win?

O.K. all you Omega & Don owners (and especially you lucky devils with both), now is your chance to chime in. What do you like about them? Dislike? Any problems? (I've read that both have had intermittent center pin issues, but this might be the nature of the mechanical beast.) If you had to do it over again would you do anything differently? Any & all opinions and info sharing are much appreciated.

I've got an Omega and it's a sturdy mod. But I don't care for the top plunger style switch. I also had problems with juice getting inside the head unit and causing contact problems. It's easily cleaned, but still a hassle. It's the primary backup to my SB but I haven't used it in months. I've never had problems with the SB and prefer its ergonomics.

You're close enough to Altsmoke to make the drive if you want to check out an Omega before you buy anything. They're in New Philadelphia about 45 miles south of Akron. They have a storefront and are open 6 days a week. Their address and hours are posted on the website here Altsmoke - Contact Us.

I do not own an Omega so I cant share anything about it. I do however, own 3 "Dons". The Don in a great all mechanical mod. It will take a many different battery configurations. I never imagined I would use the 18350 "baby Don" mode, but I have been for the last couple of weeks and its great.

The alloy versions need to be polished to keep them shiny. Not a big deal. I do love my SS Don, its my favorite mod. The Don switch is great. Adjusting the throw is very easy.

I was in the same situation a few weeks back, and I ended up deciding between the Omega and the Megalodon. Ultimately, I went with the Megalodon for a few reasons.

Reasons for choosing the Don:

Has a huge well for over dripping. It's a 2-3ml well.

Has different size options. Mini don for stealth vaping or regular don for normal vaping. If you buy two extra center sleeves, you can use the Don in light saber mode (stacked 18650's). default 6v+ options are 2x18350, 2x16340, 2x123a.

Every single part is replaceable if you choose to. The atty connector is can be changed at any time between 901, 801, and 510. I personally don't like the look of thread adapters, although stealth adapters are decent.

Has a bottom switch instead of a top switch. I've only held and used an Omega a few times, and from those few times, I can say I didn't like the switch. Perhaps it would grow on me over time, I don't know.

It was an easy choice for me, but personal preference played a part in my decision, and I guess it will play a part in yours as well.

Good luck!

HELLO!

 I could use some help here:
I removed the hard top from 2 cartomizers (long story) and found there were bung rings in them, so I started using them and I like them because
they help the E-liquid to stay in place (I use a drip-tip for a mouth-piece on my cartomizer) and they seem to prevent E-liquid from going into that black hole! LOL!.
Soooo, where can I purchase some bung rings for my 510 cartomizers? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Well, it appears the Megalodon is out to an early lead. Thanks for the replies. Anyone have any airflow problems with certain cartomizers on the Don? There was some mention of this from GrimmGreen & on a U.K. forum.

As an aside, does the aluminum Don have a brushed finish or is it shiny like chrome? I'm not crazy about the idea of constantly wiping fingerprints.

mg7454, I'm not sure where you're coming from, but couldn't you possibly wash & re-use the inner rings you have?

No problems with cartomizers, but i only use DCC's. I can see how the 510 connector on the Don could reduce airflow on slotted cartos though. but a stealth or 5mm 510-510 adapter would rectify anything like that.

Its a brushed finish. Fingerprints aren't an issue, but the aluminum does tarnish a bit. Polishing every once in a while is needed is you want to keep up appearances.

On a side note, I was throwing away some garbage today and had my Don in the same hand. I accidentally threw my Don along with the garbage. The garbage made it in the can, but the Don hit the wall behind the garbage can. It bounced and landed on the concrete. I snapped my delrin drip tip, but only got a few small scuffs on the Don. I was surprised the Don survived considering it's light weight, but it is in excellent condition. I was in mini Don mode.

This is the configuration and the drip tip that died on me.

I see you are new to the forum so you may not know forum etiquette but just so you know, the question you asked has nothing to do with this thread so I am not sure why you posted it here. You may want to start a thread in the "where can I get a...." subforum. You may get an answer there. I am not trying to be mean, I am just trying to fill you in on how a forum works. No hard feelings.

Wow, Danwich, your Don certainly looks good with that drip shield. Is that an Empire? Does it pull spilled juice from the drip well?

Another thing that's tipping me in favor of the Megalodon is that I plan on getting some kind of tank configured for an atty somewhere down the road. With the bottom switch I should be able to have the tank sit flush with the top. Anybody using a Don with a tank?

Yes its a Empire Hex Shield. The shield creates its own well so nothing ever makes it to the Don well. I like that since there is a lot of space around the 510 connector on the Don, I can put the drip shield down pretty far into the well. Depending on atty, it makes everything look better.

I also use a tank and it works perfectly. You can sit the tank flush with the top but it will reduce airflow since DCC's pull air from the bottom of the 510 connector.

Here is a picture:

DCT MAP with Smoktech 1.5ohm Dual Coil Carto. The tank is almost the same size as the mini don :)
