So menthol is basically a mint, but I just found out "wintergreen" is an entirely different plant.
I did find this:
Wintergreen Flavoring
Will try TFA "creme de menthe" and also trying Purilum "butter mint"
Menthol is menthol, mint is mint. Both have cooling properties, each have unique qualities. What you are you trying to make is an individual effort. Trying to type in the cold after freeing a bike from being stuck in the mud. Ok, shivers have stopped, back to the normal broadcast.

Capella Cool Mint and TFA Creme de Menthe are both creamy mints.

Menthol is generally thought to mean a flavouring like TFA Menthol, which is 10% menthol dissolved in pg. It's a hard core strong menthol, like menthol ciggys, but without the tobacco taste. And in colder months, this will crystallise, warm it up by sticking it in a glass of warm water

An exception to the rule is Capella Menthol - which is primarily a stronger mint flavouring.

As for the difference in the mints - try the candy versions - if you prefer peppermints, use a peppermint flavour etc
