So I'm building my first ss wick on my rsst. quick question. I'm using the pulse method and every so often, my mvp(v1) stops and i get a flashing green light, which means I've held the button too long. Then, every few pulses, it stops and i get a solid green light for four or so seconds. Is this my device detecting a short? Any help appreciated

yea thats what it sounds like, the coil is shorting out on the wick and the resistance is dropping below what the mod can handle.

this problem makes pulsing out the shorts on a mesh wick harder on a regulated mod, because it keeps kickin on the protection, I bought a very cheap mechanical mod just for pulsing coils.

one thing that has helped me in the past is take that wick and burn the end with a torch or lighter. doesnt need to be unrolled just take the wick out and burn the end that sits under the coil real good maybe even with a couple drops of juice on it. doesnt need to be the whole wick just the part the coil sits on. this may help, and try very short pulses, dont hold it long enough to kick in the protection. used to take me forever on my provari to do this and finally drove me to pick up the cheap mech.

Couldn't doing it on a mech mod mess up the battery?.. That's what I understood

it can if you sit there and hold the button down but you can tell if there is a problem on a mech, somewhere it will get really hot really fast.
but quick pulses shouldnt be a problem unless your using some no name off the wall battery. once you do it a couple times you get the feeling for it and it takes a few minutes to finish up if that. the other part of the trick is to use a half drained battery so its not pumping crazy wattage into the coil

look up vids on the pulse method and you will see this is exactly how they are doing it. the idea is the higher wattage is cuasing the short to burn and create carbon on that spot essentially oxidizing just the spot under the coil

here is pics of one of my unoxy wicks freshly pulsed out:

you can see the coil itself oxidized the wick right where it needs it.
